The pathway to better health for teenage girls starts with the first meal of the day, and when they make a “good-for-me” choice their odds of having a healthier body weight and lower cholesterol improve. These are the latest peer-reviewed findings summarized in Public Health Nutrition. This analysis of the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute Growth and Health Study (NGHS) data was funded in part by the General Mills Bell Institute of Health and Nutrition. The NGHS followed the diets of 2,379 girls who, at the beginning of the study, were between the ages of nine and 10 from 1987 to 1997; 51 percent, or 1,213, were African American girls and 1,166 were Caucasian girls who lived in Berkley, CA, Cincinnati, OH and Washington, D.C.
European motorists put having correct tires on their car second only to not drink driving in terms of its importance to road safety, with 82% of respondents stating that 'having tires in good condition and properly inflated' was 'very important' to their safety when driving.

LG Mobile Phones announced today that 13 year-old, Brianna Hendrickson from Brooklyn, NY is the winner of the fourth annual LG U.S. National Texting Championship. LG originated the first-ever nationwide texting competition in 2007 and returned this year with additional prizes and challenges. Boosters are better than they used to be at fitting lap and shoulder belts on 4 to 8-year-old kids to restrain them in a crash - so parents don\'t have to search as hard for a good fit for their child and vehicle. Most belt-positioning boosters, though, don\'t offer consistently good fit in all vehicles. This is the bottom line in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety\'s third round of booster evaluations.
Researchers assessed the safety belt fit of 72 boosters, assigning the best ones the top ratings of BEST BET or GOOD BET because they correctly position belts on average booster-age kids in most vehicles. The worst performers are ones the Institute doesn\'t recommend because they do a poor job of fitting belts. A good booster routes the lap belt across a child\'s upper thighs and positions the shoulder belt at midshoulder.
