Für Deutschlands größten Industrie-Konzern war nach 2012 zum dritten Mal in Folge ein neues Rekordjahr. Die 12 Volkswagen-Tochterunternehmen lieferten 9,3 Millionen Fahrzeuge aus. Das bedeutet gegenüber dem Vorjahr ein beeindruckendes Plus von einer Million Autos. Im Geschäftsjahr 2012 hat der VW-Konzern ein Nachsteuerergebnis von 21,9 Milliarden Euro erwirtschaftet. Das sind noch einmal 6,1 Milliarden mehr als im Vorjahr und damit das beste Ergebnis in der Unternehmensgeschichte.Trotz der allgegenwärtigen Krisenstimmung konnte der VW-Konzern zum Teil erhebliche Marktanteile hinzugewinnen. In China waren es noch einmal 25 Prozent, in den USA 34 Prozent und in Russland sogar 41 Prozent Zuwachs.Trotz aller Hindernisse ist Volkswagen weiterhin im Plan, um, wie geplant, 2018 an die Weltspitze zu gelangen. Nach eigenem Bekunden wollen die Wolfsburger aber nicht nur in Sachen Zulassungen und Umsatz weltweit die Nummer eins werden. Der VW-Konzern will bis zum Jahr 2018 als der stärkste, fairste und ökologischste Autobauer gelten.
Der Volkswagen-Konzern geht in die Elektro-Offensive. Der Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid als Plug-in steht seit August bei den Händlern, den reinen Stromer e-up! im Kleinwagen-Segment gibt es ab Oktober zum Kampfpreis von 26.900 Euro in den VW-Autohäusern zu sehen. Und Anfang nächsten Jahres folgen der Audi A3 Sportback e-tron als Plug-in Hybrid und der Golf als reines Elektrofahrzeug, von dem es in 2014 zusätzlich ebenfalls eine Plug-in-Variante geben wird. Weitere Modelle werden folgen, um in jedem Segment einen Stromer oder einen Plug-in Hybrid anbieten zu können und das selbst gesteckte Ziel zu erreichen, bis 2018 der weltweit ökologisch führende Autokonzern zu sein. Dabei bleibt man im VW-Konzern realistisch. Trotz des Volks-Elektroautos e-up! werde der Anteil der reinen Stromer vorerst begrenzt sein. Bis 2018 hofft man aber auf einen Absatz von 300.000 Fahrzeugen mit Ladestecker.
Bis zum Jahr 2018 hat Sich der VW-Konzern das Ziel gesetzt weltweiter Marktführer bei der Elektromobilität zu sein. Dr. Rudolf Krebs Leiter der VW-Konzern Elektro-Traktion erläutert uns die VW-Strategie. Vorboten seien die rein batteriegetriebenen e-up! und e-Golf sowie die Plug-in Hybriden Audi A3 etron und Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid. Doch bereits in 2014 würden 14 Modelle mit Elektro- oder Hybridantrieben zur Verfügung stehen. Und bei entsprechender Nachfrage könnten mittelfristig bis zu 40 neue Modelle mit alternativen Antrieben ausgerüstet werden. Ein Novum ist auch die Produktion dieser Fahrzeuge auf den ganz normalen Produktionsbändern.
Hundreds of Lowe’s Heroes employee volunteers teamed up with local Habitat for Humanity affiliates Friday to build homes in 10 cities across America and kick off “Hammers for Habitat,” a nationwide volunteer drive to mobilize 100,000 new volunteers to raise a hammer for Habitat this year.
From Seattle to Atlanta, volunteers framed homes in Lowe’s store parking lots and left several standing through the weekend to raise awareness of the need for volunteers to help Habitat reach its goal of serving one million people annually by 2018. In New York, volunteers from eight Lowe’s stores partnered with Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County to raise the walls of a new home in the middle of Times Square.

Abbott announced today the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval and launch of the iDesign Advanced WaveScan Studio System. The system acts as the "brain" of the LASIK procedure, generating a high-definition scan that measures and maps irregularities of the eye that may impact vision. From these measurements, the iDesign System creates an accurate and personalized LASIK treatment plan based on the unique "blueprint" of each person’s eyes.
The iDesign System captures more than 1,200 micro readings of the eye, as well as identifying the shape of the cornea, its curvature, how light passes through the eye and pupil diameter under different lighting conditions – all in one, three-second scan that can be used to precisely correct vision.
The development of the sensor technology within the iDesign System was the result of an earlier discovery by Abbott scientists, which NASA used to accurately measure and shape the mirrors in the James Webb Space Telescope to ensure it will transmit high resolution images of deep space back to earth. The telescope is scheduled to launch in 2018.

The USGA and The R&A have unveiled a preview of proposed new Rules of Golf, as part of a joint initiative to modernize the Rules and make them easier to understand and apply.
The online release of this preview begins a six-month feedback and evaluation period during which all golfers worldwide can learn about the proposed changes and provide input before they are finalized in 2018 and take effect January 1, 2019.
The announcement follows a comprehensive review process that began in 2012 with a working group of key USGA and R&A Rules administrators, professional tour officials and other Rules experts. While the Rules are revised every four years, this is the first fundamental review since 1984, and was established to ensure the Rules fit the needs of today’s game and the way it is played around the world.

Sanofi Pasteur, the vaccines division of Sanofi (EURONEXT: SAN and NYSE: SNY), announced today that its first doses of the Fluzone® (Influenza Vaccine) portfolio for the 2017-2018 influenza (“flu”) season have been released by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Sanofi Pasteur has begun distributing initial shipments, representing the first of nearly 70 million total doses of seasonal influenza vaccine manufactured by the company for this upcoming influenza season. Widespread shipment of Fluzone Quadrivalent, Fluzone High-Dose and Fluzone Intradermal Quadrivalent vaccine to health care provider offices, pharmacies and other immunizers will begin in early August to support fall immunization campaigns.

In a job interview like no other, three final candidates will each travel to a trio of countries, ranging from Colombia to Poland, India and South Africa equipped with a suitcase full of Grant’s to share with the friends they’re yet to meet.
