Automakers from around the globe are gearing up for the grand opening of the 2017 Chicago Auto Show, which opens to the public on 10am. Saturday, Feb. 11, at McCormick Place.
Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White and Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle are expected to be on hand Saturday, Feb. 11 for the ribbon cutting ceremony, which will officially open the 2017 Chicago Auto Show. With more than one million sq. ft. of exhibit space, the show is the largest in North America and has been held more times than any other auto exposition on the continent.
Taking center stage at the 109th edition of the Chicago Auto Show are more than 20 vehicles that made their world debut during this week’s Media Preview, including Dodge Durango SRT; Ford Expedition; Hyundai Elantra GT; Mitsubishi Outlander Sport; Nissan TITAN King Cab and Midnight Editions; TRD Sport editions of the Toyota Tundra and Sequoia; Subaru Legacy; and Volkswagen Atlas Weekend Edition Concept.

Der Beetle von Volkswagen zieht in diesem Sommer in den US-Motorsport ein. Am Rande der New York International Auto Show stellt Volkswagen of America den Rallycross-Beetle mit Allradantrieb vor, dessen TSI-Motor mehr als 560 PS (412 kW) leistet. Volkswagen of America hat sich für dieses Projekt mit dem US-Rennsport-Spezialisten Andretti Autosport zum Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross Team zusammengeschlossen, das zwei Global Rallycross (GRC) Fahrzeuge für die Rennfahrer Tanner Foust und Scott Speed stellt. Das Team startet die Saison zunächst mit zwei modifizierten Polos auf der Bodengruppe des 2013 World Rally Championship-Siegerautos. Im Sommer erfolgt dann der Wechsel auf den GRC Beetle, wie er in New York präsentiert wird. Mit diesem allradgetriebenen Rallycross Beetle stellt Volkswagen in den USA gleichzeitig das leistungsstärkste Modell der Baureihe vor: Der TSI-Motor leistet durch Aufladung und Direkteinspritzung mehr als 560 PS. Rallycross gehört zu den Motorsport-Disziplinen in Amerika, deren Fangemeinde am rasantesten wächst - sowohl in Besucherzahlen als auch in Bezug auf TV-Einschaltquoten. Die anspruchsvollen Rundkurse bestehen teils aus Staubpisten, teils aus Asphalt und bieten den Zuschauern durch Niveauunterschiede mitunter spektakuläre Sprünge der Wettbewerbsfahrzeuge von über 20 Meter Länge.
Die ersten reinen Golf-Stromer sind Im Volkswagen Werk Wolfsburg vor einigen Tagen von der Montagelinie gerollt, im Sommer werden wir die ersten e-Golf dann auf unseren Straßen sehen. VW schließt damit als erster Autohersteller einen Kreis, der - innerhalb einer Baureihe - alle heute relevanten Antriebssysteme - Benziner und Diesel, Erdgas-Variante, Plug-in-Hybrid (GTE) und reiner Elektroantrieb - beinhaltet. Der potentielle Käufer hat also die Qual der Wahl, wobei der neue Stromer es am schwersten haben dürfte. 34.900 Euro sind schließlich ein Wort und auch die noch mangelhafte Ladestationen-Infrastruktur dürfte sich auf die Verkaufslust auswirken. Daran ändert auch nichts, dass der Stromer mit seinem niedrigen Verbrauchswert von 12,7 kWh/100 km mit den Energiekosten knausert und damit im Alltag den Geldbeutel schont - pro 100 Kilometer fallen lediglich 3,28 Euro an. Volkswagen hat mit dem Tiguan und Touareg zwei der erfolgreichsten SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) europäischer Herkunft im Programm.
