When asked how they feel about mixing their work and personal lives, 58% of Generation Mobile workers feel guilty, according to new research from MobileIron. The MobileIron Gen M Survey, a global study of more than 3,500 full- and part-time professionals who use a mobile device for work, highlights an emerging demographic in the workplace: Generation Mobile or “Gen M.” The study found that Gen M, which is composed of mobile workers who are either men age 18-34 or people with children under age 18 in their households, relies more heavily on mobile technologies than the general population to mix their work and personal activities.

For families who have a dependent with special needs, financial planning often takes a back seat to the necessities of daily life; but it also bears an increased importance.
“April’s Autism Awareness Month offers a great opportunity to emphasize the importance of planning for families who are caring for a dependent child, sibling or spouse with special needs,” said Ruthann Driscoll, JD, CLU, CFP®, director of advanced planning at Northwestern Mutual. “Crafting a comprehensive plan that addresses the needs of the dependent with special needs — for today and for tomorrow — and balancing that with the needs of the rest of the family is essential to achieving lifelong financial security.”

The National Odor-Eaters Rotten Sneaker Contest celebrated its 40th anniversary with a fan-fare of festivities in New York City today. The competition that tests just how offensive sneakers can get, culminated with the crowning of the 40th pair of most odorous soles in the nation. Ready to be judged were seven finalists, ages six to fifteen, from across the country. They gathered at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! in Times Square wearing the decrepit and redolent rubber-soles that won them regional recognition. Only one competitor’s sneakers were declared the stinkiest, and they belonged to 14 year old Kane Young-Hiss from Berthoud, CO.

April showers bring May flowers but it also brings the potential for water in your basement. One of the worst experiences a homeowner can have is a backed-up sewer or drain filling the basement with foul-smelling water and sewage. Water losses are rising even though many of these accidents are preventable. In 2014, State Farm paid nearly $1.8 billion for water loss claims as a result of frozen pipes, flooded basements and burst appliance hoses, an increase from the $1.3 billion State Farm paid in 2013.
