Der für China zuständige Vorstand der Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft Prof. Dr. Jochem Heizmann, präzisierte am Vortag der Auto Shanghai 2013 die auf den chinesischen Markt zugeschnittene Elektromobilitäts-Strategie. Es sei geplant, von 2014/2015 an Fahrzeuge mit elektrifiziertem Antrieb anzubieten, die zum Teil lokal produziert werden. Bereits 26 Modelle des Konzerns sind von staatlicher Seite als besonders energiesparend und umweltschonend anerkannt worden. Volkswagen habe den verbrauch seiner in China derzeit mehr als 70 Modelle umfassenden Flotte zwischen 2005 und 2010 um 20 Prozent reduziert und werde ihn bis 2015 um weitere 11 Prozent senken.

For an audience of 300 at the New York Stock Exchange, including members of the New York Cosmos and New York Red Bulls, the America SCORES 7th Annual National Poetry SLAM! featured poetry performances by 27 elementary school children from 14 cities. Also in attendance were guests of honor football legend Shep Messing and soccer visionary, Joseph Tacopina. The event, a benefit for America SCORES, reached its $150,000 fundraising goal thanks largely to these honorees and their friends, including international soccer icon Pelé, who collectively matched the evening’s donations with $10,000. The number of gout patients is rising, with an estimated 8.3 million American adults diagnosed with gout—but only 10 percent of them are being properly treated, according to the Gout & Uric Acid Education Society. To heighten awareness and knowledge about gout and to lead to earlier diagnosis and treatment, the society has released two new comprehensive kits to educate patients and provide consistent information for medical professionals. The release of the Take a Stand on Gout Patient Education Kit and Medical Professional Information Kit coincides with Gout Awareness Day, an annual commemoration on May 22 to call attention to the growing incidence of gout and to enhance knowledge so as to improve patient outcomes. Both kits provide new, substantial information about gout from specialists, who treat gout patients every day.
