The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) today warned drivers in the Las Vegas area to be on the lookout for criminals targeting trucks in a deliberate attempt to cause an accident for the purpose of collecting insurance money.
As many as 100 suspected staged accidents along the I-15 corridor through the metropolitan Las Vegas area have been reported to NICB in the past 12-18 months and as many as 25 of those accidents targeted big rig trucks. The NICB is working closely with its member companies, the Nevada Insurance Council, the Nevada Highway Patrol, and the Nevada Attorney General’s Office to track down the organizers behind these schemes.

The Call of Duty™ Endowment today announced $1,110,000 in grants to launch its new ‘chapterization’ model, a funding strategy whereby grants will be provided to organizations that have the ability to scale their operations by opening new, regional offices—or chapters—that offer employment services to veterans.
The Call of Duty Endowment’s announcement comes on the heels of new veterans’ unemployment numbers released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), which found that the unemployment rate for the youngest veterans (aged 18-24) remained over 5 percent higher than for their nonveteran counterparts (20.4 percent and 15 percent, respectively). While the annual report demonstrates a positive trend nationally for the overall veteran unemployment rate, there is much work to be done, especially for our nation’s youngest veterans.

Seit vielen Jahren versuchen sie den Spielraum, bis es kracht, immer kleiner zu halten um einen Eintrag ins bekannte Guinnessbuch der Weltrekorde zu bekommen. In den vergangenen zwei Jahren wurde die Bestmarke insgesamt fünf Mal verbessert. Zuletzt lag der Spielraum in der Parklücke bei nur 22 Zentimetern – geschafft hat das, wie zu erwarten ein Stuntman. Der Chinese Han Yue hat die Lücke auf gerade einmal 15 Zentimeter Platz verkürzt. Doch die beiden Brüder Jon und Alastair Moffatt haben diesen Rekord gebrochen und das mit einer Lücke, die nur 13,1cm. Raum lässt. Damit hält das Brüderpaar aus England den aktuellen Guinness-Rekord.

Von der 200er-Baureihe wurden in den letzten 30 Jahren über 15 Millionen Fahrzeuge abgesetzt und war damit der vermeintliche Garant für ein profitables Geschäft des französischen Herstellers. Doch nicht nur der Wettbewerb verschärfte sich, auch der 207 erfüllte die fast als selbstverständlich erwarteten Verkaufszahlen nicht. Der im Frühjahr eingeführte neue 208 soll es nun wieder richten und die ersten Verkaufszahlen machen Hoffnung. Zur Flankenabsicherung schieben die Franzosen nun ab Mitte Juni den 2008 nach. Peugeot nennt ihn Urban-Crossover, was übersetzt eine Mixtur aus Mini-SUV, Mini-Van und konventionellem Kleinwagen bedeutet. Ein Segment, das in Deutschland innerhalb der vergangenen fünf Jahre nahezu kontinuierlich gewachsen ist und weiterhin hohes Wachstumspotenzial verspricht. Es hat sich eben mittlerweile herumgesprochen, dass diese Fahrzeuge in der Regel eben mehr Platz als erwartet bieten und dank der Kompaktheit nichts an Agilität und Wendigkeit eingebüßt haben.

Youth are particularly vulnerable to economic problems. They often do not have access to savings accounts, credit, or insurance due to lack of education and employment. Governments are aware of this and many are working to make it easier for young people to access financial services so they can transition smoothly into adulthood.
