With the critical success and recognition of I Am Shelby Lynne, she was awarded the Best New Artist GRAMMY® in 2000 – after nearly 13 years in the business. SCAD’s second annual deFINE ART, which ran Feb. 22 - 26, attracted thousands of visitors. deFINE ART featured lectures by prominent figures in the art world, special exhibitions, commissions, student showcases, performances and other events, all of which were free and open to the public.
As one of the highlights of this year’s programming, deFINE ART honored performance artist Marina Abramović for her groundbreaking work and influence on contemporary art. Her keynote lecture was given at SCAD’s locations in both Savannah and Atlanta. Saxo Bank’s operating income increased 6% in 2011 to reach DKK 3.53 billion, compared to DKK 3.34 billion in 2010. The Bank continued to invest in developing the business which meant that staff costs and administrative expenses increased 12%. Thus, net profit was DKK 618 million, down 4% from the previous record year. EBITDA of DKK 1.16 billion increased 4% compared to 2010.

On Thursday, December 15 at noon (ET), 24 Salvation Army volunteer bell ringers in cities across America will compete against one another in an attempt to set a world record for the longest continuous hand bell ringing by an individual. The contestants will seek to raise awareness for The Salvation Army’s 120th Red Kettle Campaign and support the Mission of The Salvation Army in serving people in need. Bell ringers will set an official Salvation Army record for 2011 when they surpass the 36 hour record set in 2010, and many hope to ring for as many as 60 hours.
