Lupe Maldonado will tell you, “education is key.” That’s because it’s what helped her and her family create a brighter future. Their story started in a garage in Torrance, Calif., more than 20 years ago. That’s where they lived when they came to the U.S. No bathroom. No running water; a mattress on the bare floor. They covered up the holes to keep out the cold and the mice. While it may have been a bleak start, Lupe says just being in America was a dream come true.
While Ismael worked 12 hour days to support his family, Lupe joined a new program at her son’s elementary school called the Toyota Family Literacy Program in order to learn English. It was a tough decision, going to school instead of getting a job that could provide the money needed to move out of that garage; but Ismael and Lupe knew if she could learn English, she could advocate for their boys with teachers, doctors and in the community. Ismael also enrolled in English classes.

The UNESCO world heritage site that is Skellig Michael is located on the Wild Atlantic Way on Ireland’s west coast and has been wowing audiences since the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, where the final scenes of this record-breaking movie were filmed.
This exclusive behind the scenes video gives fans a unique insight into the film makers’ choice of Skellig Michael as a location for Star Wars & how it fit with Abram’s goal of creating a real & authentic backdrop for the movie.
Tommy Harper, the Executive producer recalls the moment they discovered the Skellig islands:
“I got an email from Rick Carter [Production Designer of Star Wars: The Force Awakens]. He sent this link, and it was Skellig Island. J.J. [Director of Star Wars: The Force Awakens] immediately wrote back and said, “I love you! This is the best.””
Since 1977, the renowned movie franchise has travelled through many galaxies, and this time, director J.J. Abrams along with cast and crew jetted into a little village called Portmagee, County Kerry, on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. From here, they travelled eight miles (12 Km) by sea to a dream film location, Skellig Michael, which the crew described as “from another time and place”.

Each of the six episodes will feature Colombian adventurer Daniel Tirado and Mexican army veteran Alberto Pegueros surviving in extremely remote wild Aztec lands and putting their skills and knowledge into practice in order to make their way back to civilization safe and sound. Together, they have to avoid danger, predators, and find food, water and shelter. However, conflicts are not only limited to wilderness, and each man’s survival skills might not always match those of his partner, so combining techniques and living together could become the greatest of challenges for both men.

Sometimes, a reliable set of wheels is all that stands between a veteran and their dreams. This month, more than 100 veterans and their families will be getting keys to newly-refurbished vehicles as part of Progressive’s fifth annual Keys to Progress® event. This year, Progressive will donate its 500th vehicle. In a football pitch on June 20th, social media stars Iza and Elle from Sweden set a new world record on having the largest number of girls dancing in one Musical.ly video with a little help from their friends. Co-hosting the event was IFK Stocksund, the local football club where Iza and Elle are playing. Lord & Taylor’s annual holiday windows have acted as host in the creation of many memorable family moments. Sharing the story of L&T’s hundred-year-old building and New York City’s unique holiday experience, the windows are inspired by vintage New York, capturing its rich history and tradition.
Fifth Harmony performed two traditional holiday songs as well as two songs from their recently released EP, Better Together, currently ranked in Billboard's Top 10. Following their performance, Fifth Harmony made an in-store appearance, where they took photos with customers and handed out signed copies of their new EP.
