Die breite Ankündigung des Blitz-Marathons sowie die Bekanntgabe der Messstellen in den Medien – insgesamt 14.724 Polizisten und kommunale Mitarbeiter sind an 8.599 Gefahrenpunkten im Einsatz - leisten auch nach Meinung des ADAC einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Verbesserung der Verkehrssicherheit. Noch 1991 war „nicht angepasste Geschwindigkeit“ die Ursache für 84 000 schwere Unfälle mit Personenschaden. Bis zum Jahr 2012 ist diese Zahl auf 34 000 gesunken.
