“Small Business Big Game" Ad Winner
Ad spending for commercials during Super Bowl 50, set to broadcast on CBS on Feb. 7, will total a record $377 million, according to Advertising Age Datacenter’s estimates. That’s more than the combined spend on all Super Bowl ads in the 1960s, '70s and '80s with a total of $299 million.
For all those interested in the pop culture phenomenon sure to unfold during Super Bowl’s commercial breaks, Advertising Age has launched its Super Bowl 50 Special Report. The hub, which will be updated daily before and several days after the game, is chock-full of news, trends, data and videos about the evolution of Super Bowl commercials over the last 50 years. Buckle Up for Life is a national education program, created in 2004 by Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and Toyota, to save children's lives. Over the last ten years, it has grown to include a network of more than a dozen of the nation's leading children's hospitals and has educated more than 17,000 people about the proper use of car seats and seat belts. Toyota's sponsorship has provided funding for over 40,000 car seats for families in need.

Last night Sandvik Coromant, a global leading supplier of cutting edge tools, tooling solutions and know-how to the metalworking industry, lit up the Chicago skyline with insightful images designed to spread the word about the profound impact data and technology has on the manufacturing industry and people’s daily lives. The display also included inspirational images depicting the future of digital manufacturing created by Samuel and Erika Flickinger, a brother and sister from Decatur, IL. The two students, who participated in STEM education “Dream It. Do It.” summer camps created by The Manufacturing Institute, literally helped ‘flip the switch’ on the light show and also each received a $1,000 check toward their future education.
“Our goal with this light show was to raise awareness about the amazing opportunities that the use of data is driving in the manufacturing industry and honor two very creative students,” said Sean Holt, President Sandvik Coromant Americas. “We are proud to help raise awareness about the present and future opportunities of digital manufacturing, including the skilled and high paying career options for future generations.”

Continuing a multi-year string of quality and reliability awards and accolades, J.D. Power’s 2017 Initial Quality Study (IQS) today recognized Kia Motors as the highest-ranking nameplate in the United States for the second year in a row. Kia’s improvement to 72 problems per 100 vehicles marks the best nameplate performance within the last 20 years of the study, driven by five segment awards – the most of any nameplate — for the Soul (Compact Multi-Purpose Vehicle), Forte (Compact Car), Cadenza (Large Car), Niro (Small SUV) and Sorento (Midsize SUV). The Kia Soul took home an IQS award for the third consecutive year while Kia’s two newest models, Cadenza and Niro, were outstanding performers in their first model year, with the Kia Cadenza earning the top score among all models ranked in the study. Together with the Optima and Sportage , each of the seven award eligible Kia models included in the 2017 IQS study finished first or second in their respective categories.
