The American Transaction Processors Coalition (ATPC) formally launched today with a panel discussion in front of 400 industry employees, chamber of commerce executives, university leadership and elected officials from Congress, the Georgia General Assembly and local governments across metro Atlanta.
More than 40,000 employees work directly for 70-plus Georgia-based transaction processing companies within an area known as Transaction Alley. These companies generated more than $30 billion last year, far exceeding other well-known Georgia industries like life sciences at $17 billion or film at $3 billion. Transaction Alley revenues equal that of the entire U.S. movie industry, and is dominated by Atlanta, just as Los Angeles dominates films.

FTC announced last week that despite Myspace’s telling users that it will not share personally identifiable data with others; it gave advertisers “Friend ID” numbers of users. This enabled advertisers to search the users’ publicly available personal data such as full names and could even lead to discovery of their web activity. The terms of the settlement specified that Myspace is not going to misrepresent its privacy policies while implementing a comprehensive privacy program. In addition, the two parties agreed to a regular independent privacy audits every other year for 2 decades.
At 37 years old, with a thriving concrete business, a wife and three young children, dying was the last thing on Travis Roberts’ mind. But after a doctor’s visit for a kidney stone, Roberts learned he had cholangiocarcinoma, a cancer of the bile duct. His survival rate was zero.
Roberts shared his story as part of Northwestern Mutual’s ongoing Client Stories series, which highlights the importance of financial security in the face of life’s most difficult circumstances.

A new survey commissioned by Mucinex, the number one over-the-counter brand* in America, reveals that more than 158 million Americans (63 percent of the adult population) would try to hide being sick so they wouldn’t have FOMO (fear of missing out) on doing things they wanted to do. Dickey’s Barbecue Restaurants, Inc. continues to innovate and redefine the barbecue experience with the opening of a completely redesigned concept store in Dallas, and plans to roll out nationwide with all future locations. The model features a modern, rustic technology-driven experience while offering the same authentic, slow-smoked barbecue that Dickey’s Barbecue Pit has been known for over the last 74 years.
From the design and décor to square footage and improved efficiencies, the location based in Dallas at 2525 Wycliff Ave. Ste. 130 is now open. Many existing Dickey’s Barbecue Pit locations will also be retrofitted with aspects of the new model. The redesign features a holistic sensory experience, from décor made largely of sustainably-sourced, reclaimed wood to the hand-crafted design elements highlighting Dickey’s history on the walls paired with a specially curated Texas singer/songwriter playlist heard from a Bose surround sound speaker system. The new design showcases an open kitchen floor plan so that guests have full visibility into where and how their high quality meals are smoked on-site. A custom glass butcher case displays fresh meats behind the cashier while the pit sits directly behind the block, where Dickey’s seven featured meats are pit-smoked low and slow daily on-site, in a real hickory wood pit, unlike much of the competition.
