Georgia Power announced today the latest addition to its industry-leading electric transportation program –electric vehicle (EV) charger rebates for residential customers and new home builders. Introduced as part of the company’s Get Current. Last December, nearly one-third of all car crash fatalities involved a drunk driver, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Today, to help make our roads safer during the holiday season, the Television Bureau of Advertising (TVB) launched the 13th annual “Project Roadblock” initiative, in which local broadcast TV stations donate airtime to support NHTSA and the Ad Council’s “Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving” PSA (public service advertising) campaign.
To help the campaign’s message reach those who could benefit most, the Ad Council is conducting a special push to TV stations in the 10 states that accounted for 53% of all alcohol-impaired driving fatalities in 2015: Texas, California, Florida, North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, Illinois, and South Carolina.

The American Transaction Processors Coalition (ATPC) formally launched today with a panel discussion in front of 400 industry employees, chamber of commerce executives, university leadership and elected officials from Congress, the Georgia General Assembly and local governments across metro Atlanta.
More than 40,000 employees work directly for 70-plus Georgia-based transaction processing companies within an area known as Transaction Alley. These companies generated more than $30 billion last year, far exceeding other well-known Georgia industries like life sciences at $17 billion or film at $3 billion. Transaction Alley revenues equal that of the entire U.S. movie industry, and is dominated by Atlanta, just as Los Angeles dominates films.

Georgia Power today marked another year of safe construction and significant milestones at the Vogtle nuclear expansion site. The new units are currently scheduled to go into service in June 2019 (Unit 3) and June 2020 (Unit 4) and the remaining projected customer rate impact is approximately 2.5 percent, an average of less than 1 percent per year through completion.
In addition, the company’s recent completion of the settlement process between the project co-owners (Georgia Power, Oglethorpe Power Corporation, the Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia and Dalton Utilities) and the project’s contractors (Westinghouse and CB&I) settles all claims previously in litigation with the contractors, reaffirms the current in-service dates, adds additional contractual protections and positions Westinghouse and its affiliates as the primary contractor over the project.
