CEO Sheri McCoy announced that four global organizations and one government campaign have received 2nd Avon Communications Awards: Speaking Out About Violence Against Women for their outstanding work to bring attention to the need to end violence against women. The awards, presented at the United Nations Headquarters during the 57th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, are part of the Avon Speak Out Against Domestic Violence program, which has donated nearly $50 million globally to end violence against women since its launch in 2004.

(NYSE:CMN), and Prestige Ameritech, the only two major U.S.-based medical mask manufacturers have joined forces to bring attention to a glaring void in public health research and policy – that, if addressed, has the potential to more quickly provide a simple, effective tool to mitigate the spread of influenza and other respiratory borne viruses. The awareness campaign comes in response to a new study, “ Exposure to Influenza Virus Aerosols During Routine Patient Care,” published in The Journal of Infectious Diseases, showing that influenza viruses may spread as far as six feet from a person coughing or sneezing, and that some people, referred to as “super spreaders,” may be more likely to spread the virus. The study, supported by the Department of Health and Human Services with a $600,000 research grant, pointed specifically to concerns for healthcare workers being exposed to coughs from sick patients. Yet government research and policy continues to overlook face masks as a feasible protection measure for both the healthcare industry and the general public.

Taiwan International Electric Vehicle Show (EV Taiwan) vor: Das Zwei-Rad-Konzept-Fahrzeug VOI hat seinen Namen von dem vietnamesischen Wort für Elefant? ein Symbol für sicheren und intelligenten Transport. Studierende der Technischen Universität München (TUM) und Singapurs Nanyang Technological University (NTU) entwickelten und bauten es gemeinsam in Singapur. Mit dem Konzept VOI verfolgen die Studierenden das Ziel, einen agilen und erschwinglichen Zwei-Rad-Transporter zu entwickeln, der die Sicherheit eines Autos bietet. Kompakt und manövrierfähig ist der Elektroroller das ideale Vehikel für dicht besiedelte Megastädte, in denen Staus ein permanentes Problem darstellen. Eine geschlossene Passagierkabine verleiht dem Chassis zusätzliche Steifigkeit und schützt den Insassen. Der Fahrer sitzt hinten erhöht und überblickt das Verkehrsgeschehen. Mit dem VOI kommt der Passagier schnell und sicher von Ort zu Ort, selbst wenn sich der Autoverkehr staut. Damit ist der Elektroroller auch eine ideale Ergänzung zum öffentlichen Nahverkehr, indem er die Wege zwischen den Stationen bedient. Doch der VOI ist nicht nur auf den Personentransport begrenzt: Sein Vorbau kann auch Güter transportieren oder eine mobile Küche. Das effiziente Elektrofahrzeug entlastet die städtische Umwelt, da es selbst keine Abgase erzeugt. Dank seiner Leichtbaukonstruktion besitzt es eine Reichweite von 80 Kilometern. Seine Höchstgeschwindigkeit liegt bei 45 Kilometern pro Stunde.
Internationally known evangelist and founder of Christ for all Nations (CfaN), Reinhard Bonnke, announces today that for the first time in his 35-year ministry history, he will host crusades throughout the United States, called Good News: a Gospel Crusade with International Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke.
Through Good News crusades, Bonnke will travel from city-to-city to inspire Americans to draw nearer to a relationship with Jesus. CfaN will partner with local churches and pastors to host the first event at the Amway Center in Orlando, Fla., Sept. 27-28.

A new study from Robert Half and Financial Executives Research Foundation (FERF), the research affiliate of Financial Executives International (FEI), provides insight into professional standards across the finance function, including the average size of finance departments, hours worked and technologies used. The fourth annual report, Benchmarking the Finance Function 2013: The Inner Workings of Accounting and Finance, focuses on six key areas: workforce management, accounting operations, financial systems, sourcing, internal controls and compliance. The results are based on a survey of the finance departments of nearly 200 public and private companies in the United States and Canada.

INRIX, a leading international provider of traffic information and driver services, today released its sixth Traffic Scorecard Annual Report, which revealed that traffic congestion is back on the rise in 2013 after two consecutive years of declines. In the first three months of this year, traffic congestion is up 4 percent compared to 2012. This suggests that after a tumultuous economic year in 2012, the economy is back on the mend bringing increased traffic congestion.
The uptick in traffic congestion in 2013 follows a 22 percent decrease in 2012. The “stop n go” nature of the results indicate an overall economic climate that has not yet returned to pre-recession levels in many areas, including total jobs and unemployment rates.

For an audience of 300 at the New York Stock Exchange, including members of the New York Cosmos and New York Red Bulls, the America SCORES 7th Annual National Poetry SLAM! featured poetry performances by 27 elementary school children from 14 cities. Also in attendance were guests of honor football legend Shep Messing and soccer visionary, Joseph Tacopina. The event, a benefit for America SCORES, reached its $150,000 fundraising goal thanks largely to these honorees and their friends, including international soccer icon Pelé, who collectively matched the evening’s donations with $10,000. When Hans Blix is keynote speaking on the conference of the World Veterans Federation, the Peace and Security Summit, in Stockholm this May, he wants to help spread the stories of the veterans. “The public are not so familiar with what experiences the veterans have, and should listen to them,” says Hans Blix.
Hans Blix, formerly head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, is one of the keynote speakers at the World Veterans Federations conference Peace and Security Summit that is to be held in Stockholm in the end of May.
