The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) was held from June 20 to 22, 2013 – this year’s theme was “Finding Resolve to Build the New Global Economy”.
2013 was a record SPIEF year for the number of attendees – 7190 people attended, from 87 countries, out of which total there were 1245 media representatives. The Russian and international business community was well represented – SPIEF 2013 was attended by 176 major foreign corporations and 436 large-scale Russian businesses. Out of the companies who attended, 67 leaders of the foreign businesses, and 24 leaders of the Russian corporations have Forbes or Fortune listings. Moreover, 327 representatives of official foreign delegations attended SPIEF 2013.

The number of gout patients is rising, with an estimated 8.3 million American adults diagnosed with gout—but only 10 percent of them are being properly treated, according to the Gout & Uric Acid Education Society. To heighten awareness and knowledge about gout and to lead to earlier diagnosis and treatment, the society has released two new comprehensive kits to educate patients and provide consistent information for medical professionals. The release of the Take a Stand on Gout Patient Education Kit and Medical Professional Information Kit coincides with Gout Awareness Day, an annual commemoration on May 22 to call attention to the growing incidence of gout and to enhance knowledge so as to improve patient outcomes. Both kits provide new, substantial information about gout from specialists, who treat gout patients every day.

Von echten Rennautos haben sich die Designer und Ingenieure inspirieren lassen. Heraus gekommen ist ein GTI, der schon im Stand kein Hehl daraus macht, was seine Bestimmung ist. In 3,9 Sekunden ist Tempo 100 erreicht, seine Höchstgeschwindigkeit liegt bei über 300 km/h. Möglich macht das ein Bi-Turbo V6 mit 503 PS. Auch VW Nutzfahrzeuge hat ein entsprechendes Showcar für das GTI-Treffen auf 22 Zoll-Räder gestellt. Die Basis bildet der Amarok. Passend zum bulligen Outfit arbeitet unter der Haube ein V6 TDI mit 3-Liter Hubraum und erzeugt satte 200 kW (272 PS). Der Hingucker bei den Fans war natürlich der Polo R mit dem VW erfolgreich in der Rallye-Weltmeisterschaft unterwegs ist. INRIX, a leading international provider of traffic information and driver services, today released its sixth Traffic Scorecard Annual Report, which revealed that traffic congestion is back on the rise in 2013 after two consecutive years of declines. In the first three months of this year, traffic congestion is up 4 percent compared to 2012. This suggests that after a tumultuous economic year in 2012, the economy is back on the mend bringing increased traffic congestion.
The uptick in traffic congestion in 2013 follows a 22 percent decrease in 2012. The “stop n go” nature of the results indicate an overall economic climate that has not yet returned to pre-recession levels in many areas, including total jobs and unemployment rates.

Tree Fu Tom, the animated preschool series that’s taken Britain by storm, will make its U.S. debut on Sprout®, the 24-hour preschool channel, on April 22 at 11:00 a.m. EST. Eine enge Parklücke treibt den meisten Autofahrern Schweißperlen auf die Stirn. Für einige Zeitgenossen hat sich daraus eine echte Trendsportart entwickelt. Das funktioniert allerdings nur mit einer Menge Fahrkönnen. In die Minimalsten-Lücken zwängen die Fahrkünstler ihr Auto mit Schwung und einem beherzten Griff zur Handbremse. Nichts für Angsthasen! Seit vielen Jahren versuchen sie den Spielraum, bis es kracht, immer kleiner zu halten um einen Eintrag ins bekannte Guinnessbuch der Weltrekorde zu bekommen. In den vergangenen zwei Jahren wurde die Bestmarke insgesamt fünf Mal verbessert. Zuletzt lag der Spielraum in der Parklücke bei nur 22 Zentimetern – geschafft hat das, wie zu erwarten ein Stuntman. Der Chinese Han Yue hat die Lücke auf gerade einmal 15 Zentimeter Platz verkürzt. Doch die beiden Brüder Jon und Alastair Moffatt haben diesen Rekord gebrochen und das mit einer Lücke, die nur 13,1cm. Raum lässt. Damit hält das Brüderpaar aus England den aktuellen Guinness-Rekord.
