Farmers Insurance is ringing in the New Year by honoring those who make us smarter with the “Thank A Million Teachers” float at the Tournament of Roses Parade. In Farmers’ 55th entry to the renowned event, the float will celebrate the “Thank A Million Teachers” initiative, which invites America to make 2014 the year to thank a million teachers. Riding the float will be honored educators from Montana and Nevada, alongside local Los Angeles students. Through the “Thank A Million Teachers” platform, Farmers has committed up to $1,000,000 in funds to classrooms and education programs. The celebration at the 2014 Rose Parade follows a recent kick-off event where actor Jack Black offered the first “thank you” to his former teacher and mentor, Debbie Devine.

Lightning may not seem as destructive as other natural disasters, yet a strike can cause serious damage to business equipment and electrical appliances, disrupt electrical service for long periods of time, and spark wildfires. In 2014, State Farm paid nearly $149 million dollars for insurance claims as a result of damage from lightning strikes.
June, July, and August are the times of year when lightning is most frequent. This year, Bob Evans Farms is partnering with JDRF for the second year, with a goal of raising $100,000 for T1D research by selling JDRF’s signature paper sneakers in each of its 561 restaurants.
Starting today through March 19, guests can support the fight against T1D by making donations of their choice to JDRF at their local Bob Evans restaurant. Guests interested in making a contribution will receive one of JDRF’s paper sneakers to sign and display. On 6th May 2015, a delightfully different wedding took place. Two people who’d fallen in love after meeting on a Turkish Airlines flight returned, exactly one year later, to take their romance to another level.
When a beautiful Serbian actress, Vjera Mujović and Stefan Preis, an esteemed doctor from Germany boarded the same Turkish Airlines flight in May 2014, little did they know they’d be returning to the same spot for their wedding.
Having been seated next to each other on the TK 342 flight from Istanbul to Ulan Bator in Mongolia, the couple began chatting. It was kismet. They discovered shared values, thoughts and opinions, despite not only their different backgrounds but also their separate reasons for taking this trip. Before long, they were struck by Cupid’s arrow, and a year later, on 6th May 2015, they became husband and wife aboard the Turkish Airlines Belgrade-Istanbul flight on the same seats 5B and 5C, to be exact.

Pairing the endless possibilities of space exploration with the limitless opportunities of education, Texas Instruments (TI) (NASDAQ: TXN) and NASA are partnering to show students how science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) make feats like space exploration possible with mISSion imaginaTIon. The partnership and its programs aim to spur the imaginations of the next generation of scientists, engineers, explorers and innovators who are in today’s math and science classrooms.
Combining expertise, TI Education Technology and NASA have developed programs that promote STEM-focused lessons for students and teachers in middle and high school. Launching today, the mISSion imaginaTIon online quiz allows participants to see if they have what it takes for a year-long mission aboard the International Space Station. After discovering how ready they are to live in space, students can then put their STEM skills to the test with the mISSion imaginaTIon design challenge, which asks students to devise solutions to four space-related challenges.

It’s a new year and a fresh new look for American Airlines as the company today unveils a new logo and exterior for its planes, including the already delivered Flagship Boeing 777-300ER aircraft set to fly on Jan. 31. In addition, American plans to continue taking delivery of new planes this year as part of its historic orders for 550 new aircraft. Food Network kicks off the New Year with a new season of Worst Cooks in America, the hit competition series that transforms kitchen disasters into skilled cooks, and five-time winner Chef Anne Burrell returning for a rematch against Chef Tyler Florence. Premiering on Sunday, January 3rd at 9pm ET/PT, the seven episode series pits Anne against Tyler, each leading a team of disastrous cooks in an intense kitchen boot camp designed to vastly improve the food skills of their recruits. The contestant who makes the most impressive culinary transformation is awarded a $25,000 grand prize, in addition to delivering victory and bragging rights for their team leader.
“Worst Cooks is comical, competitive and ultimately, inspiring,” said Bob Tuschman, General Manager and Senior Vice President, Food Network. “Under Anne and Tyler's guidance, these cooking-challenged contenders transform their hilarious kitchen blunders to refined culinary techniques - and the journey is truly entertaining to watch.”
In the season premiere, Anne and Tyler are confronted with some of the worst cooks they've ever seen during an open casting call. They then chose fourteen recruits including a lunch lady, truck driver, Army veteran and special education teacher to send to boot camp, and each contestant whips up the “offending dish” that landed them in hot water. After a stomach-wrenching tasting, Anne and Tyler pick their teams and attempt to teach them to make a well-balanced meal. Two recruits are not up to the task, and are sent home. Upcoming episodes feature a game show - style battle called “Family Food,” internationally-flavored empanada and Asian street food challenges and a visit from the competitors’ loved ones. The season culminates in a finale on Sunday, February 14th at 9pm ET/PT where the most improved recruit is awarded $25,000 and bragging rights for their mentor.
