Work intensity among European workers is still high, and it has not increased over the past five years, according to the first findings of the 5th European Working Conditions Survey, out today.
The survey also found that for most workers (67%), the pace of work is set by direct demands from people and working at high speeds remains high. The extent to which workers can make their own decisions about how they do their job has not improved, leaving a large number of workers ill-equipped to deal with work’s demands. European workers also remain as exposed to physical hazards, however, as they did 20 years ago.

BeautifulPeople.com, the dating community exclusively for good-looking people, has launched “REALLY?” a 90 second movie in response to a sustained assault on the site’s concept.
Since BeautifulPeople.com launched in 2002, the dating site which is founded on the principle that everyone wants to be with someone they are attracted to, has come under fire for being prejudiced, unfair, and even for misunderstanding human nature. In the words of renowned social psychologist Dr Cliff Arnall, former lecturer and researcher at Cardiff University, it has been “lambasted for telling the truth.”

This design of a unique non contact chuck, was a part of a much larger scale design and engineering project of a wet processing machine for the semiconductor industry.
The client requested Vertex to design, engineer and produce a scalable new chuck that can hold the wafer from the bottom end and at the same time process the same side which the wafer is held from. We had strict instructions not to have any contact with the top side of the wafer, due to sensitive semiconductor design on that side, therefore the name “Non Contact Chuck”.
This unique design had to overcome and avoid collision of the wafer’s holding fingers with the process module while scanning the wafer above it. This resulted in holding fingers behaving like Millipede legs.
Challenges in this design were enormous.
The chuck had to spin 360 degrees, travel on the Z axis, pressurize the top side of the wafer with air to prevent any liquid from getting to the top side, as well as, pneumatically control and actuate each finger at the right time.
Great project to work on, great challenge and great results.

The interesting part can be found inside! Actually, this is not entirely true anymore, because packaging has reached a high-tech level for some time now. Now it can even speak. But apart from that the wrapping-industry has been developing in many directions: packaging has to be ecological, well legible, act as advertising space and of course, if nothing else, also be nice-looking. In any case, the trade fair interpack in Düsseldorf is the place to be when it comes to packaging.
Together with comedienne Heather McDonald, Kotex Natural Balance, from Kimberly-Clark Corporation, is asking women to stand up and share their thoughts about what’s real and what’s not so real about the claims, innovations and storylines they see in today’s feminine care advertisements. Starting May 7, McDonald will star in a new web video series on the Kotex Natural Balance Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/kotex) and YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/kotexvideos) that calls out the jargon in the category (what does nano-breeze maxi pad technology even mean?) and invites women to join in the conversation.
Women can upload their videos and comments on the Kotex Natural Balance Facebook page to let McDonald and Kotex Natural Balance know what’s real and what’s not. Their submissions will help inspire five more videos starring McDonald and influence material for a live Stand Up For What’s Real comedy tour that will visit major cities later this year. McDonald will perform live at select stops.
