Four-time Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year, Kenny Chesney, will kick-off The Salvation Army’s 122nd annual Red Kettle Campaign with a LIVE performance at Cowboys Stadium during halftime of the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day game against the Washington Redskins at 3:15PM (CT) on FOX. The nationally televised show marks the 16th year the Dallas Cowboys have helped The Salvation Army launch the campaign, which began on a San Francisco pier in 1891. Kenny’s performance will help raise awareness and millions of dollars for the Red Kettle Campaign, which collected a record $147.6 million last year. Funds will support people in need, including those still experiencing the lasting impact of Hurricane Sandy this Christmas season.

An early crop of advanced crash avoidance technologies includes some clear success stories when it comes to preventing crashes, insurance claim analyses by the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) show.
Forward collision avoidance systems, particularly those that can brake autonomously, along with adaptive headlights, which shift direction as the driver steers, show the biggest crash reductions. Lane departure warning appears to hurt, rather than help, though it’s not clear why, and other systems, such as blind spot detection and park assist, aren’t showing clear effects on crash patterns yet.
HLDI analysts looked at how each feature affected claim frequency under a variety of insurance coverages for damage and injuries. Clear patterns were seen in claims under property damage liability (PDL) insurance, which covers damage caused by the insured vehicle to another vehicle, and collision insurance, which covers damage to the insured vehicle. Frequency is measured as the number of claims relative to the number of insured vehicle years. An insured vehicle year is one vehicle insured for one year, two vehicles for six months, etc. The model years of the vehicles included ranged from 2000 to 2011, depending on when an automaker introduced a feature. Insurance data through August 2011 were used.

The North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) today revealed new programs and major improvements that will make the entire show experience more convenient, and more productive for both media and auto manufacturers.

McDonald’s USA announced today it will televise its annual 365Black Awards ceremony for the first time on national cable television network Black Entertainment Television® (BET®). Hosted by award-winning actress Taraji P. Henson, the program will air at 11 p.m. Eastern/10 p.m. Central Sunday, August 25. McDonald’s 365Black Awards will feature an all-star lineup of celebrity performers and presenters. Beginning today, America can click and choose which Web search results it prefers by participating in the Bing It On Challenge, available at Bing.com. Based on research that indicates people prefer Bing Web search results over Google, Bing is inviting consumers to come and see for themselves with an online test designed to show that the quality of Bing’s Web search results has surpassed Google’s.
Although most people identify themselves as Google searchers, an independent study commissioned by Microsoft Corp. shows people chose Bing Web search results over Google nearly 2-to-1 in blind comparison tests. Given those findings, Bing decided it’s time to let people see for themselves that there is a better option in search.
