Starwood Hotels and Resorts, Inc. (NYSE: HOT) announced that it will grow its New York City portfolio by 50% this year and open more hotels in New York in 2010 than any other city in the world. Today, Starwood operates 12 hotels in the Big Apple across six of its nine distinct and compelling brands. The company's NYC boom will result in 18 high-caliber Starwood hotels including the debut of Starwood's two newest brands in Manhattan — Aloft and Element. Vehicles are doing a better job of protecting people in crashes, but a new crop of advanced technology aims to prevent many crashes from happening altogether. A new study by the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) finds that one kind of advanced forward collision avoidance system is working to prevent about a quarter of the common low-speed crashes that happen in everyday commuter traffic.
The study of insurance claims found that Volvo XC60 midsize SUVs outfitted with a standard collision avoidance feature called City Safety are far less likely to be involved in low-speed crashes than comparable vehicles without the system. City Safety is designed to help a driver avoid rear-ending another vehicle in slow-moving, heavy traffic. Claims under property damage liability coverage — the insurance that pays for damage to vehicles that an at-fault driver hits — were filed 27 percent less often for the XC60 than other midsize luxury SUVs.

As I'm approaching the time of certain eviction, I've been proving to myself what a little pressure can do to get the creative juices flowing and I am somewhat amazed by how quickly I have been creating and organizing enough videos that would have normally stretched out the span of this year and probably throughout 2014, all inside the time frame of a month. Particularly in the case of this song which is one of several songs that I have been working on that are somewhat more complex and exhibit my full potential as a musician. This song would have normally taken me a full year to compose and like some of my other prouder creations, I figured that there just was no time left for me to complete this kind of composition. Although admittedly I did rough it as I wrapped up the song in a day and took about one hour on the video but I think that with this one, I have successfully achieved my goal. I can always redo this at a later time when I get resettled and back in the groove.

Today's SUVs and pickups pose far less risk to people in cars and minivans than previous generations, a new study from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety shows. Until recently, SUVs and pickups were more likely than cars or minivans of the same weight to be involved in crashes that killed occupants of other cars or minivans. That's no longer the case for SUVs, and for pickups the higher risk is much less pronounced than it had been.

According to State Farm® claims data, more cooking fires occur on Thanksgiving than any other day of the year. In fact, grease and cooking-related claims more than double on Thanksgiving Day compared to an average day in November.
With the popularity of turkey frying, people are at risk for fryer related fires and injuries. U.S. fire departments are responding to more than 1,000 fires each year in which a deep fryer is involved. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) says deep fryer fires result in more than $15 million in property damage each year and hot oil splatter can cause serious burns to an adult or life threatening injuries to a child.
