The National Inventors Hall of Fame®, in partnership with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), will host the Greatest Celebration of American Innovation on May 3-4 in our Nation’s Capital. Events will recognize and celebrate 15 pioneers who have significantly contributed to society through their scientific breakthroughs and patented innovations, culminating in a formal Induction Ceremony on May 4.
This year’s class of Inductees includes innovators such as Iver Anderson (Lead-Free Solder), Marshall Jones (Industrial Lasers), Frances Ligler (Portable Optical Biosensors), and Howard Head (Laminate Ski; Oversized Tennis Racket), just to name a few. Haggar Clothing Co., the Official Jacket Provider of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, will create a new Hall of Fame this year to recognize and celebrate America’s greatest dads.
Starting today, football legend and Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith, whose own father demonstrated the importance of family by putting aside his football dreams and turning down a scholarship to care for his family, will lead the national call for nominations to the inaugural class of the Haggar Hall of Fame Dads.
“While being in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and wearing the Gold Jacket is one of my proudest achievements, being a dad to my five kids exceeds that by a mile,” said Smith. “My dad sacrificed so much to give me this life, and he’s the reason I have the Gold Jacket – and it’s why I’m honored to join Haggar in recognizing the great dads and father figures across the nation with a Hall of Fame of their own.”

In a job interview like no other, three final candidates will each travel to a trio of countries, ranging from Colombia to Poland, India and South Africa equipped with a suitcase full of Grant’s to share with the friends they’re yet to meet.
Their journey will echo the legendary trip taken in 1909 by Charles Grant Gordon, the son in law of the founder of Grant’s Whisky, William Grant. Three undeniable greats with one common bond – all were “Akron Born.”
With the world’s greatest basketball players set to compete on the sport’s biggest stage, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company will celebrate their birthplace by getting the next generation of Akron greats off to a winning start.
To do this, Goodyear will honor babies born in Akron-area hospitals during the NBA Finals with a “Most Valuable Ride” care package consisting of a set of Goodyear tires, an “AkronBorn” onesie and a brand-new infant car seat.
Three Akron-based medical facilities – Summa Akron City Hospital, Cleveland Clinic Akron General and Akron Children’s Hospital – will “assist” the initiative and help deliver the care packages to families of newborns. The package builds on Goodyear’s recent Safe Mobility Project with Akron Children’s Hospital.
