Warner Bros. Consumer Products, on behalf of DC Comics, and action sports event producer, ASA Entertainment, announced the dates for the 2010 Supergirl Jam event series today. For the fourth consecutive year, these unique events will feature more than 100 of the world’s top female action sports athletes competing in surfing, skateboarding, snowboarding and inline skating. The Supergirl Jam is the industry’s only large-scale, all-girls action sports competition and is designed to celebrate female strength, independence and empowerment. In 2010, the Supergirl Jam series will kick-off with three events, each highlighting the sport’s most talented female pros as well as up-and-coming amateurs.

With Arizona facing its share of tragedies lately – economically, politically and most recently the wildfires which have impacted thousands of residents – the community has found comfort in rallying together to celebrate the grand opening of the new Phoenix Children’s Hospital. The campus of Arizona’s only hospital 100 percent for children grew from 345 licensed beds to 465, and will ultimately house 626 licensed beds at full build-out, expected in 2013.

This Sunday, June 19th, as we celebrate fathers across the nation, new research finds that contemporary norms of fatherhood emphasize men’s involvement with their children in addition to the traditional role of financial provider. Further, the number of hours that fathers work is not strongly related to fathers’ involvement with their children. Rather, “new fathers” appear to be cutting back on, or incorporating their children into, their leisure time.
“Over the past two decades, fathers have become more involved in all aspects of their children’s lives,” says Kenneth Braswell, National Responsible Fatherhood Clearinghouse (NRFC) Director. “Fathers continue to feel strongly about providing for their children while taking a more active role in other key activities such as meal preparation, bathing, and bedtime routines.”
Further, the Pew Research Center notes that six-in-ten Americans (58 percent) say it is “extremely important” for a father to provide values and morals to his children and roughly half say it is extremely important for a dad to provide emotional support (52 percent).
