Wer seinen Kompaktwagen demnächst auf fabrikneue Sommerreifen umrüstet, kann sich ruhigen Gewissens auch für eine etwas größere Dimension entscheiden. Das gilt jedenfalls für die elf handelsüblichen Sommerreifen der Größe 225/45 R 17, die die GTÜ Gesellschaft für Technische Überwachung im Fahrbetrieb praktisch getestet hat. Diese Reifen sind ohne Ausnahme unterm Strich entweder empfehlenswert (7) oder sehr empfehlenswert (4). Dabei begutachteten die GTÜ-Experten gemeinsam mit den Testern des ACE Auto Club Europa die Reifeneigenschaften auf dem Gebiet Sicherheit etwa bei nasser und trockener Fahrbahn sowie in den Bereichen Umwelt und Wirtschaftlichkeit. Dabei überzeugten die Breitreifen fast durch die Bank mit hohen Sicherheitsreserven selbst auf nasser Straße. Bewertet wurden die Fabrikate in insgesamt zwölf einzelnen Kategorien. Aus der Prüfung von GTÜ und ACE ging der Conti SportContact 5 mit 143 von 190 erreichbaren Punkten als Testsieger hervor. Der Preis für einen Vierer-Satz dieser Reifen ist mit einem vom Bundesverband Reifenhandel ermittelten Durchschnittspreis von 556 Euro von allen getesteten Mitbewerbern allerdings auch am höchsten (siehe Ergebnistabelle). Vom Einkaufspreis her betrachtet am günstigsten ist der Apollo Aspire 4GXL (119 von 190 Punkten/empfehlenswert), bei dem der Reifensatz lediglich um die 400 Euro kostet.

New survey results from Connections Academy, http://www.connectionsacademy.com, one of the country’s leading providers of full-time online school for students in grades K through 12, reveals the reasons parents enroll their children in online schools. The results are from the Connections Academy 2014 Parent Satisfaction Survey, an annual third-party survey now in its twelfth year. All families with students enrolled at the time of the survey were invited to participate – 45% of the families responded to the survey, totaling more than 18,000 respondents. The survey results suggest key explanations for the continuing growth of virtual schooling in the United States.

BMM, Asia’s only Midnight Marathon, was conceived by Rotary Bangalore IT Corridor (RBITC) and the first edition run was held on 19th May 2007. Since then this event is growing from year to year and today people from more than 20 countries are participating in this event and also the number of runners from 2400 in the Year 2007 has increased to 10,000 runners apart from 45 Corporates participating in the event held in 2013, being the seventh edition run. RBITC’s effort in making BMM as a mega event is laudable as it focuses both on bringing about awareness amongst today's youth of the need to be physically fit and mentally strong and also transforming this as a vehicle for raising funds for various charitable activities, aimed at bringing about a difference in the lives of the underprivileged section of the society. To-day BMM has become the largest fund raising platform for RBITC. EnteroMedics Inc. (NASDAQ: ETRM) today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved VBLOC® vagal blocking therapy, delivered via the Maestro® System, for the treatment of adult patients with obesity who have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of at least 40 to 45 kg/m2, or a BMI of at least 35 to 39.9 kg/m2 with a related health condition such as high blood pressure or high cholesterol levels, and who have tried to lose weight in a supervised weight management program within the past five years. The Maestro System is the first new medical device to be approved by the FDA for obesity in over ten years. EnteroMedics anticipates that the device will be available, on a limited basis, at select Bariatric Centers of Excellence in the U.S. this year. The Maestro System has received CE Mark and is listed on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods.
