The number of gout patients is rising, with an estimated 8.3 million American adults diagnosed with gout—but only 10 percent of them are being properly treated, according to the Gout & Uric Acid Education Society. To heighten awareness and knowledge about gout and to lead to earlier diagnosis and treatment, the society has released two new comprehensive kits to educate patients and provide consistent information for medical professionals. The release of the Take a Stand on Gout Patient Education Kit and Medical Professional Information Kit coincides with Gout Awareness Day, an annual commemoration on May 22 to call attention to the growing incidence of gout and to enhance knowledge so as to improve patient outcomes. In 2012, State Farm® had 3,670 dog bite claims and paid more than $108 million as a result of dog bites. Yearly, more than 1 million babies die the day they are born, according to the first global analysis of newborn day-of-death data.
In addition to newborn findings, the report features Save the Children’s Mothers’ Index, released annually before Mother’s Day. It ranks Finland as the best place in the world to be a mother, and Democratic Republic of the Congo as the toughest. The United States ranks 30th best.

Kubota Corporation today announced the grand opening of its new $73 million manufacturing facility at Kubota Industrial Equipment (KIE) in Jefferson, Ga. Nach eigenem Bekunden wollen die Wolfsburger aber nicht nur in Sachen Zulassungen und Umsatz weltweit die Nummer eins werden. Der VW-Konzern will bis zum Jahr 2018 als der stärkste, fairste und ökologischste Autobauer gelten.
In recognition of International Women’s Day, Avon Foundation for Women Ambassador Salma Hayek Pinault and Avon Products, Inc. CEO Sheri McCoy announced that four global organizations and one government campaign have received 2nd Avon Communications Awards: Speaking Out About Violence Against Women for their outstanding work to bring attention to the need to end violence against women. The awards, presented at the United Nations Headquarters during the 57th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, are part of the Avon Speak Out Against Domestic Violence program, which has donated nearly $50 million globally to end violence against women since its launch in 2004.
