There was a lot of excitement on the campus of North Shore Animal League America’s national adoption headquarters in New York when Renée Felice Smith of NCIS: Los Angeles loaned her time and talent to co-direct and film a Public Service Announcement for the Mutt-i-grees® Curriculum. The actress was joined by a cast made up of thirty five pre-k, elementary, middle and high school student volunteers. Diabetes experts met and determined that some self-monitoring blood glucose (SMBG) systems, despite meeting accuracy standards at the time of U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance, fail to consistently meet accuracy standards once on the market, potentially putting patient health at risk. In a public meeting convened by the Diabetes Technology Society on May 21, 2013, in Arlington, Virginia, leading academic clinicians, clinical chemists, medical device experts, patient advocates and FDA representatives reviewed a growing body of peer-reviewed research demonstrating that the performance of some blood glucose monitors on the market may not be meeting accuracy standards.

Team for Life - Fighting Cancer, Giving Hope
Lazarex Cancer Foundation (www.lazarex.org) is a 501(c)(3) non profit that was founded by Dana Dornsife, who is also President of the organization. She became a cancer advocate when her brother-in-law Mike was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2003 as she searched for options that would buy Mike and his family some additional time. Her dedication enabled Mike to live long enough so that his youngest daughter would have real memories of him, which she could keep throughout her life
