At 37 years old, with a thriving concrete business, a wife and three young children, dying was the last thing on Travis Roberts’ mind. But after a doctor’s visit for a kidney stone, Roberts learned he had cholangiocarcinoma, a cancer of the bile duct. His survival rate was zero.
Roberts shared his story as part of Northwestern Mutual’s ongoing Client Stories series, which highlights the importance of financial security in the face of life’s most difficult circumstances.

On the eve of National Adopt-A-Dog Month, the network is getting into some heavy petting. That’s when dogs and cats will invade the channel to launch MTV2’s #Down2Adopt, an on-air and online campaign to make shelters and rescue groups the go-to choice when looking for your new best friend. MTV2 will showcase adoptable shelter and rescue pets during the year-long campaign as they join forces with The Shelter Pet Project, a national public service program from the Ad Council, The Humane Society of the United States and Maddie’s Fund®.
#Down2Adopt launches with a series of video pet biographies featuring the voices of Kristen Bell, MTV2’s Charlamagne Tha God and MTV2’s Carly Aquilino comically narrating stories of how some dogs and cats found themselves in shelters. It will be all paws on deck when the #Down2Adopt pet bios premiere during an all new episode of MTV2’s “Uncommon Sense with Charlamagne” tonight, Wednesday, September 30, at 11pm ET. When I think of “Country”, I think of holding onto things passed down, going to Grandma and Grandpa’s on Sundays to watch TV and socialize as a family, playing Kick the Can with anyone who could still run, picking a guitar under an old oak tree surrounded by farm land, but more importantly ~ family. If you are a country music fan, it has more than likely influenced your life and to many, a large part of it. Country music to me is about the good stuff, telling stories, and life in general. Not making a political statement, but I would like to see Country Music take a step closer to its roots… even if only a small step.
Tyrelle Davis and Faith Fennidy, both 11-years old, made headlines when they were sent home from school because of their hair extensions. Eleven-year-old Jorja Orrick was bullied for having short hair, which prompted her sister Sarah to cut her own locks in solidarity. With real stories like these and a history of helping young girls build self-esteem, Dove was inspired to join forces with Kelly Rowland to write and produce an original song titled, “Crown” — a power anthem that aims to break down the narrow definition of beautiful hair and encourage girls to feel confident in wearing it how they choose.
