In honor of Cinco de Mayo, the world’s greatest speed eaters recently battled in the Alamo City to claim victory in the La Costeña Feel the Heat Jalapeño Eating Championship Challenge. After ten fiery minutes, including a double overtime one-on-one challenge with the reigning champion, Pat “Deep Dish” Bertoletti emerged victorious by consuming 275 whole pickled jalapeños. Alstom and Virgin Trains have unveiled a new look for one of the fifty-two high-speed tilting Pendolino trains serving the West Coast Main Line.
The train, renamed “Alstom Pendolino” by Virgin Trains CEO Tony Collins during a ceremony at Euston station, London, now displays a specially designed Alstom branding alongside that of Virgin. This is in recognition of the successful partnership between the two companies, established in 1999, which underpins the delivery of a world class intercity service. I bought this Drill Hole Saw for drilling holes in some very hard porcelain tile. They worked exactly as needed. I chucked the 1″ bit inside a drill press, constructed a little dam with modeling clay across the hole to hold a small amount of water and ran the bit at a slower speed. It cut an attractive hole fairly quickly. I can’t communicate to their long-term sturdiness, although following cutting a dozen=plus holes the bit was nonetheless executing well. Overall, I was extremely happy with the price/performance ratio – nicely worth the money.

New crash tests and analysis by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety demonstrate that underride guards on tractor-trailers can fail in relatively low-speed crashes -- with deadly consequences. The Institute is petitioning the federal government to require stronger underride guards that will remain in place during a crash and to mandate guards for more large trucks and trailers.
