More than 10 million (1 in 6) seniors in the U.S. face the threat of hunger and more than 15 million (1 in 4) are living in isolation. Meals on Wheels America is a national network of local community organizations that deliver meals, friendly visits and safety checks to our nation’s most vulnerable seniors. With the senior population projected to double by 2050, and an aging volunteer base, Meals on Wheels America, in partnership with the Ad Council, is launching its first national integrated campaign this summer to recruit a new pipeline of volunteers to meet the growing need.
Every day, Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver one million meals and smiles to seniors in need across the country. The current network represents more than 5,000 local programs in virtually every community in America and relies on an army of two million volunteers to deliver meals five days a week, typically between 11 am and 1 pm. Beyond providing nutrition, delivering a meal also provides a moment of human connection that nourishes both the senior and the volunteer. For many seniors, the volunteer may be the only person they will see that day. According to a survey of current Meals on Wheels volunteers, more than 75 percent are over the age of 55, and the average age of volunteers is 62, making it critical to recruit additional volunteers to keep the wheels rolling for future generations.

The Ad Council’s I Am A Witness campaign is bringing together the top digital companies in the teen space for the second iteration of the award-winning and unprecedented effort aimed at transforming the “silent majority” of kids who witness bullying each day from passive bystanders into a united, empowered and active collective against bullying. The campaign is the first to create an anti-bullying emoji adopted by Unicode and natively available on nearly all smartphones across the world. There will be activations throughout the month of October to coincide with Bullying Prevention Month.

On 26 – 28 October Skolkovo Technopark hosted the 5th annual Open Innovations Forum. This event was important for developing Russia’s innovative ecosystem. This Forum welcomed more than 13 500 guests from more than 100 countries, 600 speakers, hosted more than 100 sessions. More than 300 investors and venture funds, about 1 200 representatives of innovative structures, more than 2 000 corporate representatives, and 3 000 startups took part in the Forum.
This year for three days Skolkovo Technopark became a working space for open discussions, associate meetings and a search for partners and investors. The Forum’s success was the direct result of the number of meetings held and agreements achieved – above 700 negotiations were conducted on the venue, more 50 partner agreements were signed.
Dmitry Medvedev, Prime Minister of Russia, said: “This year, the Forum is to take place at Skolkovo Technopark, which is considered to be the largest technopark in Europe. It is a clear example of a successful start-up that helps to implement interesting projects and generate original ideas. İki aylık bilim ve felsefe dergisi olan "DüşünBil"de düzenli olarak yazıyor. "Akıl Çağında İnancın Eleştirisi" isimli iki bölümden oluşan kapsamlı makalesi bu derginin anasayfasında yayımlandı. Yine kendi bloğu üzerinden de aktif bir şekilde bilim, felsefe, ahlak ve din üzerine yazılarını paylaşmaya devam ediyor. Diğer yandan da Çağan Çelik'in kurduğu "Greener Nautilus" ekibinin bir parçası. Birkaç senedir otobiyografik bir roman üzerinde çalışıyor. Ve son olarak kendisi Bursa'da yaşamını sürdürmekte.

Çok satan bir dizi kitabı, Gen Bencildir, Kör Saatçi ve Olasılıksızlık Dağına Tırmanmak (Kuzey Yayınları tarafından Türkçe'ye çevriliyor) ile evrim hakkındaki bakışımızı değiştirdi. Bu yıl (1995) Bilimin Halkça Anlaşılması kürsüsünün ilk Oxford'lı profesörü oldu. Şimdi de bilime bakışımızı değiştirmek istiyor.
Bu çok ağır bir top. Gerçek bir gülleden daha ağır çünkü dayanıklı kurşundan yapıldı. İnsan kafasından on kat daha ağır. Şimdi sizden istediğim bu noktaya doğru gitmeniz, topu burnunuza doğru tutmanız. Topu bırakın ve aynı noktada durun. Newton'ın enerji korunumu kanunu nedeniyle bu topun burnunuzun ucunda aniden durup size zarar vermeyeceğinden emin olabilirsiniz. Şu anda bu deneye katılmak isteyen gönüllü var mı?

Asıl sorun bilimin doğal hayatımızın bir parçası olmamasıdır. Hepimiz bu deneyde bir tehlike olmadığını bilmeliyiz. Bilimin bize böyle söylediğini bilmeliyiz. Ancak belli ki hepimiz böyle yapmıyoruz. Benim bu programdaki amacım ise bilimin hayatımızda neden önemli bir yer tutması gerektiğini göstermek.
Bilime sırtımızı döndüğümüz ve bilim karşıtlığını kucakladığımız an, yüzyüze kalacağımız tehlikeleri göstermeyi umuyorum. Ve bilimin ne yapabileceğini anlamadan alacağımız riskleri...
Başlamak için en uygun yer her şeyin başlangıcına gitmek olacak. Evrenin kökeni hakkında bilmediğimiz çok şey var ve araştırmaya devam etmeliyiz. Fakat evrimsel yaşamın büyük resmi hiç şüpheye yer bırakmayacak şekilde ortaya çıkmıştır.
Dünya yaklaşık 4.5 milyar yaşında. Ve kısa bir süre sonra, ilk bir milyar yılda ilk canlı hücreler ortaya çıktı ve bunun ardından hepimiz türedik, tüm bitkiler, tüm hayvanlar, tüm insanlar...
Bu kanıtlanmış bir olgudur. Tüm canlılar hepimiz kuzeniz. Bilim insanları bunu, dünyanın düz değil, yuvarlak olması veya Dünya'nın diğer şekilde değil de Güneş'in etrafında dönmesi gibi kabul ederler. Buna inanmamak gülünç olur.
