In an effort to support the 42 million caregivers in the U.S. who are caring for parents and older loved ones and to illustrate the complexity of this relationship, AARP and the Ad Council are unveiling a new suite of public service advertisements (PSAs), including ads specifically designed to reach the Hispanic community, as an extension of their national Caregiver Assistance campaign. The PSAs, which launch today alongside new data highlighting the added stressors many caregivers face during the holiday, will be distributed to media outlets this week to coincide with National Family Caregivers Month (November).

Ahead of World Mental Health Day, today sees the publication of the Mental Health Integration Index, a new research initiative commissioned by the Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson and undertaken by the Economist Intelligence Unit.1 The research explores the challenges of integrating Europeans with mental illness into society and employment, within the European Union’s 28 Member States, plus Norway and Switzerland. Countries have been ranked according to their degree of commitment to support those living with mental illness; the findings demonstrate that while there are many examples of good practice across Europe, the whole region has a long way to go before people with mental illness are adequately supported and truly integrated into their communities.

In the United States for 2014, about 62,900 new thyroid cancer cases will be diagnosed. Medullary thyroid cancer – a rare form of cancer located in the thyroid gland at the base of the throat – represents only about three to four percent of all thyroid cancers. Of those cases, just one third will be locally advanced or metastatic disease. More than 173,000 women in the United States are living with metastatic breast cancer and each has a story to tell. AstraZeneca is launching a nationwide photo-sharing campaign to provide them another way to share their inspiration, experiences and strengths with others.
To show their support, women living with metastatic breast cancer can upload photos of themselves on social media using the campaign hashtag #MBCStrength. Photos posted on Twitter by October 1, 2014 and tagged with #MBCStrength will be considered for a Times Square display in New York City on the fifth anniversary of Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day on October 13, 2014.

Today at the 10th Annual Meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) in New York City, the Ad Council in partnership with Year Up, the Employment Pathways Project, ConPRmetidos, MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership, New Options Project, and Opportunity Nation launched the national “Grads of Life” campaign to help businesses fill more than 4 million vacant positions within the United States with qualified workers. The launch took place during CGI’s inaugural in-person meeting of the new Youth Employment Action Network attended by both business and non-profit leaders.
