Adults have gotten the message that it’s safer for kids to ride in the back seat properly restrained, but when it comes to their own safety, there is a common misperception that buckling up is optional. Among adults who admit to not always using safety belts in the back seat, 4 out of 5 surveyed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety say short trips or traveling by taxi or ride-hailing service are times they don’t bother to use the belt.
The new survey reveals that many rear-seat passengers don’t think belts are necessary because they perceive the back seat to be safer than the front. This shows a clear misunderstanding about why belts are important, no matter where a person sits in a vehicle.
Before the majority of Americans got into the habit of buckling up, the back seat was the safest place to sit, and the center rear seat was the safest place of all in 1960-70s’ era vehicles. In recent decades, high levels of restraint use, the advent of belt pretensioners, load limiters and airbags, plus crashworthy vehicle designs have narrowed the safety advantages of riding in the rear seat for teens and adults.

For millions of American kids and teens, back-to-school means more than class time, it also means ‘Club time’ as they spend after school hours at local Boys & Girls Clubs across the nation. This fall, Club members at 50 Boys & Girls Clubs – one in each state – will be greeted with refreshed, enhanced or expanded facilities as Lowe’s gives fifty $50,000 grants through Renovation Across the Nation, a $2.5 million initiative through its national partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA).
Olympic gold medalist Dominique Dawes vaulted the program into the spotlight this morning, kicking off the initiative at one of the 50 Clubs, the Boys & Girls Club of Harlem in New York City. The nationwide revitalization effort will enhance both the environment and the experience for more than 50,000 Club members, driving new membership among kids and teens. Dawes, a long-time friend of Boys & Girls Clubs and a mother herself, understands the value of the Club experience in bringing hope and strength to kids and teens in need of a safe and inspiring place to go after school.

Did you know that your company can receive up to 50% government funding when installing an industrial heat recovery system?
The program is called IHRS – or Industrial Heat Recovery Scheme – and within the program, a total of £18 million are available for funding.
Of the £18 million, £6 million are earmarked for concept and design and £12 million are earmarked for installation, commissioning and monitoring.
A heat recovery project can receive funding at any stage – even at the consultant and analysis stage – all the way through to the final turn-key delivery.
Funding applications are graded on a 0-to-10 scale. The higher the score, the greater the funding potential.
In order to be eligible for funding, the heat recovery system must be installed on an existing installation.
The project as a whole is graded based on energy benefit, kilowatt savings as well as environmental, economic and social impact and must achieve a minimum score of 5.
It is a requirement that the recovered energy is used within the confines of the business.

Nun man irrte sich. Nach anfänglichen Akzeptanz-Schwierigkeiten mauserte sich das Audi-Flaggschiff zum Erfolgsmodell. Die jetzt gründlich überarbeitete vierte Generation, die im November beim Händler steht, soll dies möglichst noch toppen. Der Einstiegspreis beträgt 75.400 Euro. Mit 5,14 Meter Länge, 2,99 Meter Radstand, 1,95 Meter Breite und 1,46 Meter Höhe ist der A8 in seinen Abmessungen gleich geblieben; beim A8 L kommen in Radstand und Länge je 13 Zentimeter dazu. Beibehalten wurde natürlich auch der Leichtbau. Die Karosserie besteht nahezu komplett aus Aluminium und wiegt – in der Audi Space Frame-Bauweise konzipiert – lediglich 231 Kilo und auch das Gesamtgewicht des A8 3.0 TFSI stellt mit 1.830 Kilo einen Bestwert unter den Wettbewerbern mit Allradantrieb dar. Darüber hinaus gibt es noch zahlreiche optionale Assistenzsysteme, die das Fahren im A8 noch souveräner machen. Die adaptive cruise control mit Stop&Go-Funktion ist mit einer Ausbaustufe des serienmäßigen Sicherheitssystems Audi pre sense basic gekoppelt, das Gleiche gilt für den Audi side assist. Neu im A8 sind der Audi active lane assist, der die Lenkungsrichtung gegebenenfalls leicht korrigiert, und der Parkassistent mit Umgebungsanzeige, der die Lenkarbeit beim Parken übernimmt. Das ebenfalls neue Head-up-Display projiziert wichtige Informationen im Sichtbereich des Fahrers auf die Windschutzscheibe und der Nachtsichtassistent kann neben Fußgängern jetzt auch größere Wildtiere erkennen.Da bleiben also kaum noch Wünsche offen – allerdings bewegt man sich dann in Preis-Regionen von weit über 100.000 Euro. Muss man ja nicht alles haben. Für die Ingolstädter ist ein derartiges Angebot aber wichtig, um die Ansprüche betuchter Käufer zum Beispiel im Nahen Osten oder in China erfüllen zu können.
