Quadriplegic former IndyCar driver and current team owner Sam Schmidt completed the bottom half of the challenging, high-altitude Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb yesterday in the Arrow Electronics, Inc. (NYSE:ARW) Semi-Autonomous Motorcar (SAM car).
Schmidt, who was paralyzed from the neck down in a crash during an IndyCar practice lap in 2000, is able to steer, accelerate and brake the modified 2016 Corvette Z06 SAM car using only his head. Sensors mounted on an Arrow-designed high-tech headset that Schmidt wears connect to infrared cameras mounted on the dashboard and detect his head-tilt motions to steer. A sip-and-puff device that Smith breathes into enables him to accelerate and brake.

we even launched Journey Instruments, I saw Maneli Jamal’s “Movement
III” from his Ziur album on Youtube and I was totally floored. I
immediately bought his album and then sought him out for private
lessons on Skype (And learned a bastardized version of his ”Most
Glorious Day” song from the same album. Ha!). Though I had to quit
lessons due to the demands of running two companies and having my
second child, I kept in touch and have just loved watching him perform
and grow as an artist. Here we are 3 years later, and I’m humbled to

New York Yankees all-time great Bernie Williams is teaming up with Boehringer Ingelheim to raise awareness of a lung disease called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) that his father suffered from for years before he passed away in 2001. His father, Bernabé, inspired Williams to play baseball and make it to the Major Leagues, and taught him to play guitar which has become William’s second career since retiring from baseball.
In honor of his father’s battle with IPF, Williams has joined the Breathless™ campaign to turn his family’s devastating experience with this rare lung disease into a chance to help other families. When Hans Blix is keynote speaking on the conference of the World Veterans Federation, the Peace and Security Summit, in Stockholm this May, he wants to help spread the stories of the veterans. “The public are not so familiar with what experiences the veterans have, and should listen to them,” says Hans Blix.
Hans Blix, formerly head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, is one of the keynote speakers at the World Veterans Federations conference Peace and Security Summit that is to be held in Stockholm in the end of May. Now he speaks for the first time about what made him decide to contribute to the conference.
