Bis vor drei Jahren behauptete sich Peugeot sieben Jahre lang als Spitzenreiter im europäischen Kleinwagen-Segment. Von der 200er-Baureihe wurden in den letzten 30 Jahren über 15 Millionen Fahrzeuge abgesetzt und war damit der vermeintliche Garant für ein profitables Geschäft des französischen Herstellers. Doch nicht nur der Wettbewerb verschärfte sich, auch der 207 erfüllte die fast als selbstverständlich erwarteten Verkaufszahlen nicht. Der im Frühjahr eingeführte neue 208 soll es nun wieder richten und die ersten Verkaufszahlen machen Hoffnung. Zur Flankenabsicherung schieben die Franzosen nun ab Mitte Juni den 2008 nach. Peugeot nennt ihn Urban-Crossover, was übersetzt eine Mixtur aus Mini-SUV, Mini-Van und konventionellem Kleinwagen bedeutet. Ein Segment, das in Deutschland innerhalb der vergangenen fünf Jahre nahezu kontinuierlich gewachsen ist und weiterhin hohes Wachstumspotenzial verspricht. Es hat sich eben mittlerweile herumgesprochen, dass diese Fahrzeuge in der Regel eben mehr Platz als erwartet bieten und dank der Kompaktheit nichts an Agilität und Wendigkeit eingebüßt haben.

Sogenannte Concept Cars sind auf allen Automessen der Hingucker. Sie sollen zeigen, was die Autobauer für die Mobilität der Zukunft entwickeln. Oft wird aus dem Blick in die Zukunft aber auch nichts. Die Studien wären für eine Serienproduktion dann doch zu teuer gewesen, oder zu praxisfern, oder es wäre einfach nicht mehr die Akzeptanz bei den Käufern vorhanden. Dann wandern die Konzepte nach ihrem glorreichen Messeauftritten still und leise ins Museum oder die Schrottpresse. VW hat mit einem ambitionierten Projekt bewiesen, dass es auch anders geht. Das 1-Liter-Auto erschien zu Beginn vielen Skeptikern noch als reine Utopie. Als VW in Doha den Prototyp des XL1 durch die Straßen fahren ließ, war aber klar, dass es sich nicht nur ein imageträchtiges Marketingprojekt handelt. Spätestens als in Genf die Kleinserie des XL1 ins Scheinwerferlicht rollte, mussten Zweifler erkennen, dass VW es ernst meint.

Decorated U.S. war veteran Romulo (Romy) Camargo starts his day like most of us. He wakes up, gets a drink of water, has some breakfast, brushes his teeth, and gets dressed. But for Camargo, whose injuries in Afghanistan left him paralyzed from the neck down, these morning routines require some assistance. And Toyota is learning how to help.
Thanks to Camargo, Toyota recently completed the first North American in-home trial of the Human Support Robot (HSR). The HSR is one of the “partner robots” Toyota is developing to assist people with everyday activities. Toyota is actively researching ways to apply advanced technologies to help people with limited mobility, including seniors or those who are disabled.

With the July Fourth holiday fast approaching, Brookdale Senior Living and the nonprofit organization Wish of a Lifetime™ are celebrating patriotism by sharing the stories of four high-flying World War II veterans whose Wishes of taking to the skies again were fulfilled by the organizations. Granting these Wishes was a way to honor the service of these American heroes and to demonstrate that there is no age limit for taking new adventures. Since Brookdale and Wish of a Lifetime™ started their partnership in 2010, more than 80 of their Wishes have commemorated the service of Brookdale veterans across the country.
