While consumers may claim to have a preferred brand of sparkling water and the ability to differentiate between their preferred brand and its competitors, their tastes may not as be fine-tuned as they think. A recent survey of sparkling water drinkers found that 83 percent of respondents say they had a preferred brand of sparkling water, and 59 percent of that subset said they could tell the difference between competing sparkling water brands. But participants in a blind taste test conducted by SodaStream yesterday had quite different views, based on their in-person experiences. The taste test, carried out in celebration of today’s National Hydration Day, found more discernment between competing brands, but tasters overwhelmingly preferred the taste of New York City tap water made sparkling using a SodaStream machine. A new survey from Alcon, the global leader in eye care and a division of Novartis, demonstrates that people experience significant emotional and lifestyle benefits after cataract surgery. Nearly three in four respondents who expressed an opinion agreed that after having the surgery, they were happier, more satisfied and had a greater appreciation for life. The survey also confirmed that life before surgery posed several daily challenges. A majority of survey respondents said cataracts made simple, day-to-day tasks harder, and made them feel annoyed, frustrated and old. In recognition of Cataract Awareness Month this June, Alcon conducted the MyCataracts survey with 1,300 US adults, age 60 and over, who have undergone cataract surgery, to better understand the emotional journey of the condition and the lifestyle benefits of treatment. The survey expands Alcon’s ongoing MyCataracts awareness campaign by uncovering insights that will help people make informed treatment decisions together with their doctors. More than four in 10 workers (42 percent) in a new survey from global staffing firm Robert Half said they’re likely to look for a new job within the next year. For respondents ages 18 to 34, the number likely to seek new employment in the next 12 months jumps to 68 percent. Part of the retention challenge for executives is understanding why a good employee might want to leave. Inadequate salary and benefits is the top reason workers said they would quit. However, CFOs reported the number-one reason they think good employees would resign is limited growth potential. Most Americans appear hopeful and optimistic about aging according to a new, national study from Parker, one of America’s leading aging services organizations that this year celebrates its 110th anniversary. Key findings from Parker’s “Aging in America Survey”—which examines the nation’s changing attitudes and opinions around growing older in the U.S.—include: • A vast majority of Americans (71%) do not fear or worry about aging very much or at all. • More than half of those surveyed (62%) believe that 80 is not too old to serve in government, run a marathon, be CEO of a Fortune 500 company, teach a class, or practice yoga. • Those surveyed were evenly split (49% each) in describing the experience of growing older in America today with positive words (e.g., “hopeful,” “relevant,” “vibrant”) vs. negative words (e.g., “scary,” “depressing,” “lonely”). • Nearly two-thirds (59%) of Americans feel that not enough technology innovation focuses on the lifestyles of older people. • While 38% of Americans feel the most positive thing about getting older is gaining more experience and wisdom, only 1% believes it is acquiring greater wealth and material goods. TruGreen, the nation’s leading professional lawn care company helping people live life outside, is expanding its expert service offerings with the launch of TruGreen Mosquito Defense to help homeowners combat mosquitoes and help protect their families. As the weather gets warmer, these backyard invaders can prevent homeowners from reaping the benefits of living life outside. According to a recent online survey conducted by Harris Poll on behalf of TruGreen, among over 2,000 U.S. adults, 85 percent of Americans say that mosquitoes limit their or their family’s outdoor activities during the months they’re most active. The same survey also found that nearly two thirds of Americans (64 percent) are concerned about protecting themselves and their family from Zika or other mosquito-borne illnesses. Furthermore, 65 percent of Americans use bug spray on themselves/their family to combat mosquitoes outdoors at home and though it’s the top response for preventative measures, still only half (51 percent) say it is most effective at preventing mosquitoes from biting outdoors at home. Today on World Oral Health Day, FDI World Dental Federation is myth busting what people around the world believe to be good oral health practices, encouraging them to become better informed and take action. Oral health is integral to our general health and well-being; impacting every aspect of our lives. The results from a survey carried out in 12 countries, by YouGov on behalf of FDI, exposed a significant gap between what people believe to be good oral health practices, versus what they actually do. Eight of the countries reported that 50 percent or more of the people surveyed think it is important to brush your teeth straight after every main meal. Brazil, Mexico, Egypt and Poland were the worst offenders of this incorrect oral health practice (84%, 81%, 62% and 60% respectively). FDI recommends waiting at least 30 minutes after eating to brush your teeth to avoid weakening tooth enamel. WebMD and Scripps Translational Science Institute (STSI) today announced a new investigative study designed to improve researchers’ and health care professionals’ understanding of what contributes to healthy pregnancies and positive pregnancy outcomes. The Healthy Pregnancy Study will use WebMD’s newly redesigned and enhanced Pregnancy app for iPhone. Incorporation of the Apple ResearchKit software framework will enable survey participants to eConsent, easily and anonymously answer questions, and share connected device data about their pregnancies with researchers for analysis. “Pregnant women are one of the least studied populations in medical research,” said Dr. Eric Topol, director of STSI and editor-in-chief of Medscape. “The results of our Healthy Pregnancy Study -- on the foundation of an exceptionally popular smartphone app -- will ultimately provide expectant mothers, researchers, and health care professionals with new medical insights to avoid complications during pregnancy.” To view the multimedia release go to: https://www.multivu.com/players/English/7579757-webmd-stsi-healthy-pregnancy-study-app/

Imagine trying to make a decision with only half the information. Today, nearly all organizations across the public and private sectors rely on data to make better decisions about everything from employee salaries to new legislation. Data provides decision makers insight into what the baseline is, where collective needs are, and where resources should be allocated. But half our world’s population—women—are underrepresented and many times completely unrepresented in these datasets. Inaccurate data often results from gender bias in the design of surveys or questionnaires, or from someone other than the woman or girl responding to a survey on her behalf. Misrepresented or incomplete gender data collection yields results that misses the mark on understanding women’s needs or their economic and social contributions. Policies and initiatives around healthcare, education, economic opportunity and more are built based on what’s available—gender-biased data—and fail to fairly serve women and girls. How can we close the gender data gap and pursue the global ambition towards gender equality and a fuller understanding of the whole population? Despite respondents rating their supply chain processes as “good,” one in four hospital staff have seen or heard of expired product being used on a patient, and 18 percent have seen or heard of a patient being harmed due to a lack of necessary supplies.

Match, the world's largest relationship company, today released findings from its seventh annual Singles in America study – the nation’s largest, most comprehensive annual survey of single people living in the U.S. The 2016 survey captures surprising data and trends on new dating rituals, the impact social media has had on the dating landscape, shifting gender roles, as well as attitudes about love, sex, and relationships across generations. “The annual Singles in America study has once again demonstrated new emerging trends including men’s overwhelmingly positive view of feminism and feminists, in the boardroom and the bedroom. We’ve captured the great spring forward in gender equality,” says Dr. Helen Fisher, biological anthropologist and Chief Scientific Advisor to Match. “Millennials are diligently using technology to find love—and building new dating rules and taboos along the way. Moreover, if you want to spur a budding relationship forward, skip the flowers: leave your cell phone in your pocket. And how do you know when a friendship is turning into a romance? Singles still express true love in ancestral ways -- it’s not about revealing your passwords.” To view the multimedia release go to: http://www.multivu.com/players/English/8024551-match-7th-annual-singles-in-america-study/
