Thirty-six warriors coping with service-connected injuries will join Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) on a monumental cross-country journey to raise awareness for veteran issues, tomorrow. Soldier Ride Across America – beginning at One World Trade in New York City and ending at Ocean Beach, California – commemorates the 15-year anniversary of Chris Carney’s historic coast-to-coast cycling venture in support of wounded warrior, which spurred the creation of the WWP Soldier Ride® program. After the first ride, several combat warriors who returned from Operation Enduring Freedom with visible and invisible injuries joined Chris for another cross-country ride. This second trek across the nation united wounded warriors and helped them redefine personal strengths and rekindle the battle buddy mentality so crucial in military service. Despite many obstacles, the group of warriors refused to give up – using the experience as a catalyst to show the public and themselves that with support and motivation, anything is possible. Traveling these days can be complicated with all the rules, restrictions, additional fees, and shrinking leg room – but it doesn’t have to be. Amtrak revealed today an exciting new campaign, dubbed “Break the Travel Quo,” that goes head-to-head against some of the most prevalent pain points of modern day travel and reminds consumers that riding with Amtrak is a far easier, more comfortable and convenient way to travel. “Break the Travel Quo” takes a lighthearted approach to push against the realities of air and car travel that have become par for the course, juxtaposing commonplace scenarios against the comfort and convenience of Amtrak. Not only does Amtrak boast one of the most generous baggage policies in the travel industry – allowing passengers to bring up to four pieces of luggage for free – but the rail company also offers free Wi-Fi, the freedom to use phones and electronic devices at all times (no “airplane mode”), the ability to travel with small pets on many trains, large spacious seats with ample leg room, and no middle seat. Flying takes a heavy toll on Americans’ performance: according to results released today from a 1Above survey conducted online in May by Harris Poll among over 2,000 U.S. adults, 81% of U.S. fliers (Americans who’ve ever flown) whose most recent flight was an hour or longer say they need one full day or more to recover after a flight. Yet results show poor hydration and flying habits abound - factors that greatly exacerbate jet lag symptoms and health risks long after each flight. 1Above, the New Zealand brand behind the flight drink designed to help people combat jet leg and arrive ready, is releasing these findings as they launch in North America this week. Mazda announced the addition of Liam Dwyer as a full-time racer in the 2015 Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge. Dwyer stunned the racing world in 2014 when he teamed up with Tom Long to co-drive their Freedom Autosport Mazda MX-5 to the win in the Lime Rock Park Continental Tire ST race on Memorial Day weekend. The win was a made-for-Hollywood storyline as Dwyer was competing in only his second professional race, and he was doing it with an artificial leg, having been injured while serving as a U.S. Marine Staff Sergeant in Afghanistan just three years previously. For 2015, Dwyer will be paired up with Andrew Carbonell for the entire ten-race season beginning January 23rd at Daytona International Speedway. Carbonell scored two wins with Freedom Autosport and Mazda in 2014. To view the Multimedia News Release, go to http://www.multivu.com/players/English/7200253-mazda-motorsports-liam-dwyer/

In an effort to learn more about driver inattention, one of the biggest killers on WA roads, RAC created the world's first Attention Powered Car -- a car that goes when you're paying attention and slows when you're not. On the final leg of our road trip, we visited Narrogin in the Wheatbelt, which is also often dubbed by emergency services as the 'accident belt'. Here, single vehicle crashes with young drivers behind the wheel are particularly high, so we wanted to see if inattention was part of the problem. Our first driver, Shawn, took the Attention Powered Car and few mates around town. Not surprisingly, his mates proved to be a distraction, as well as thinking about his girlfriend and sadly, friends lost on the road. Next up was Speedway Driver Coby. She performed well on the open road, but had plenty inattention moments to match. Perhaps most telling though, was her insight into the minds of many drivers who even after being made aware of their limitations, aren't likely to change behaviour. Check out the video to see the Attention Powered Car on the road and how our drivers performed. Plus, follow the journey, watch all webisodes from our journey and keep up-to-date with what we have planned next by visiting forthebetter.com.au

The Attention Powered Car, developed by the RAC, is into leg 3 of its road trip around WA visiting towns including Donnybrook, Nannup and Pemberton, heading to Albany and then finishing in the Wheatbelt town of Narrogin. In this episode we put two drivers behind the wheel that drive for a living. We wanted to see if their professional experience influenced their attention levels. How will our Ambo and Australia's best truck driver perform? First up was Mike. As a St John's Ambulance Volunteer, he needs to be calm and confident driving under pressure and at high speed. And it showed. So too with our second driver, Murray, who's TNT Australia's best truck driver. Both came out determined and focused to prove they had the edge. To some degree they did. Incidences of inattention were fewer and further between, but they were still there. Encouragingly, both drivers were much better at refocusing when they did lose attention. Check out this webisode to see just how they performed, as well as what insights we are finding about driver inattention as we take the Attention Powered Car through southern WA.
