World trade in perishable foods turns a page as Maersk Container Industry (MCI), an independent business unit in the Maersk Group conglomerate, today announced that it has begun production of the first refrigerated containers and Star Cool refrigeration machines built in South America at its new MCI facility in San Antonio, Chile.
The first trial production of these ISO standard 40 feet reefer containers were successfully delivered during the third quarter of 2015 into the Maersk Line and CMA CGM operations. Shortly thereafter, both shipping lines placed new orders. To further leverage this new value proposition, Maersk Line has secured a fixed monthly volume from the MCI facility allowing for increased agility and fast response time to the demand in the region.
“In this sweet spot of fruit exporters, we have placed the factory right where the demand is. For the first time ever in South America, reefer containers can go straight “from factory to farm”,” said Stig Hoffmeyer, Chief Executive Officer of MCI. “Offering the Star Cool Integrated reefers locally to shipping lines, farmers, fruit distributors and leasing companies, will have a financial benefit counted in thousands of dollars per reefer, and millions for the industry in total,” he continued.

Neighbors across the country will soon have an exciting opportunity to help change their communities for the better through State Farm Neighborhood Assist®. This philanthropic program awards 40 causes a $25,000 grant. Anyone in the United States can submit a cause beginning March 9 through March 30. Ultimately, voters will decide which community improvement projects win big.
Returning for its fourth year, State Farm Neighborhood Assist asks individuals to identify causes that would help make their communities safer, stronger and better-educated. Up to 4,000 causes will be accepted. The State Farm Youth Advisory Board (YAB) will then narrow down the field, using a scoring rubric to identify the top 200 submissions. The public will have a chance to vote 10 times a day from May 14 through June 3 for their favorite causes from the list of finalists. The 40 causes that receive the most votes will win a $25,000 grant. The nominations and votes will be accepted exclusively through a free Facebook app.

Consumers seeking locally sourced products can easily find one in an everyday pantry staple – vegetable oil, which is primarily 100 percent soybean oil made from soybeans grown in the U.S. Sales of vegetable oil support more than 550,000 U.S. soybean farmers who strive to leave the land in better shape than they found it for America’s next generation of farmers. “I work hard to help produce an ingredient that I am proud to serve to my own family, as well as families across the U.S.,” said United Soybean Board (USB) Chairman Bob Haselwood. “Every time you purchase vegetable oil, or soybean oil, you’re supporting local farmers.” Haselwood produces soybeans on his farm in Berryton, Kansas. Many retailers sell soybean oil primarily produced with U.S.-grown soybeans. This past summer, USB partnered with a large Midwest grocery retail chain with 200+ stores to emphasize the importance of knowing where food comes from and educate about the benefits of soybean oil. During this promotion, unit sales of the store brand vegetable oil rose more than 27 percent over the same time last year, and shoppers commented that they were more likely to purchase soybean oil knowing it’s a U.S.-grown product. Wildfires are a serious risk to property and lives in every state in the country. Last year alone the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) reported there were 63,212 fires in the U.S. and Puerto Rico that burned 3,595,613 million acres – that’s roughly the size of Connecticut! Florida residents previewed Honey Nut Cheerios' one-of-a-kind living billboard, just outside of Orlando, to celebrate the classic cereal’s key ingredient –real honey. Much more than just a billboard installation, the three-story free-standing structure was home to more than 100,000 honeybees. The honey produced from the working hives was used to spell out “Made with Real Honey” on the exterior of the installation. The local Florida honey was used to produce a limited number of exclusive boxes of Honey Nut Cheerios.
Constructed in the farm fields at Diamond P Farm and Ranch, the honey-bees used in the creation of the billboard were supplied in partnership with Brent Dickson and his family, who are local Orlando bee-keepers. True to standards, most of the beekeepers who make the honey for Honey Nut Cheerios run family businesses and depend on their bees to make a living.
“Honey is more than just an ingredient – it’s the flavor at the heart of Honey Nut Cheerios. And that’s why we thought there was no better way to explain just how real the honey is that goes into Honey Nut Cheerios than by physically showing it,” said Jared Pippin, senior associate marketing manager at General Mills. “We wanted to honor the honeybees and show our support for the dedicated beekeepers who love honey just as much as we do.”

When Daisy is called to a fire scene, she knows that work comes first and socializing with fire fighters comes second. It can be tough for her, especially when everyone tells her she is so beautiful and talented but thankfully her partner keeps her focused on her job. She is a fire investigator´s dream and an arsonist´s worst nightmare. Daisy is an accelerant detection canine and along with her partner, John Peters, work for the Westchester County Police Department in New York. Both were trained through the State Farm Arson Dog Program to locate trace amounts of ignitable liquids such as gasoline or kerosene that may have been used to start a fire. That is why Daisy and many other accelerant detection canine teams are being recognized during National Arson Awareness Week, May 3–9, 2015.
