Drivers of vehicles that perform well in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's side-impact crash test are much less likely to die in a real-world left-side crash than drivers of vehicles that do poorly, a new analysis finds. The study includes only passenger vehicles with side airbags, demonstrating that airbags, while crucial, are far from the whole story in side crash protection.
After controlling for driver age and gender and vehicle type and weight, a driver of a vehicle rated good for driver protection in a side impact is 70 percent less likely to die in a left-side crash compared with a driver of a vehicle rated poor. A driver of a vehicle rated acceptable is 64 percent less likely to die, and a driver of a vehicle rated marginal is 49 percent less likely to die.
A new study measuring everyday irritations like heat, traffic and household pests ranks major southern cities among the most irritated in the nation. Atlanta (No. 1), Houston (No. 2), Washington DC (No. 3) and Baltimore (No. 4) ranked the highest in irritating factors, while predominantly northern cities like Rochester (No. 50), Milwaukee (No. 49), Minneapolis (No. 48), Buffalo (No. 47), and Tucson (No. 46), the arid outlier, ranked the lowest.

Alison Sweeney and Mika Brzezinski co-hosted the 10th Anniversary of the More Magazine/Fitness Magazine Women’s Half-Marathon in Central Park on Sunday, April 14, 2013. More than 7,550 women from around the world took part in the race—the largest women’s-only half-marathon in the country—established by More and Fitness magazines in partnership with New York Road Runners.
