The Art Institutes schools are dedicated to providing students with hands-on, real-world education, in- and outside of the classroom. With a career-focused curriculum, experienced faculty and a range of community-based projects, students test their ideas against the needs of the real world.
One unique example is Student Studio: Bonnaroo. In partnership with the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, students from several Art Institutes schools are producing projects to make their creative mark on this year’s festival, June 9-12. The assignment was to create 15 student projects across all four areas of study at The Art Institutes: design, media arts, fashion and culinary.

Contests may come and go, but there’s one that has stood the test of time thanks to some real “sticking” power...the Duck® brand Stuck at Prom® Scholarship Contest. Approximately one year after leading roof window manufacturer VELUX Group joined forces with social business Little Sun and NGO Plan International, launching a design competition to bring clean, sustainable light to Africa, the first solar lamps have now arrived on African soil.
The VELUX Natural Light International Design Competition received 172 proposals from 65 countries. A high-level jury of experts in the fields of architecture, art and design subsequently selected the winning design, by Mariana Arando and Luca Fondello of the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Their solar lamp design was inspired by the way light can bring people together.
The VELUX Group has so far produced and donated 14,500 of the solar-powered lamps, and 150 local sales agents are now being trained in how to sell the lamps in off-grid communities in Senegal, Zimbabwe and Zambia. The training combines workshops, roleplay, demonstrations, and group work.

Shock Top and Stan Herd, the world's preeminent representational Earthwork artist, are collaborating on a series of original Earthworks a first for the artist and the beer brand. The series will reflect the essence of the beer, both theoretically (designed to embody the unique, free-spirit of the beer) and literally (produced with materials that are ingredients of the beer, including wheat and oranges). The series is comprised of three Earthworks, the first of which was unveiled today in Austin, Texas.
