For the nation’s nearly 51 million Hispanics, every day is one of living the colors, flavors, and excitement of Latino culture. From September 15 through October 15, Americans of all ethnicities honor the contributions of American Latinos by celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. Amway, one of the largest direct selling companies in the world, is joining in this celebration. It has partnered with broadcast networks Discovery en Español and Discovery Familia to create a campaign – “Momentos de Calidad” (“Quality Moments”) – to encourage Hispanics to share those special moments of growing up in Latin America.

FTC announced last week that despite Myspace’s telling users that it will not share personally identifiable data with others; it gave advertisers “Friend ID” numbers of users. This enabled advertisers to search the users’ publicly available personal data such as full names and could even lead to discovery of their web activity. The terms of the settlement specified that Myspace is not going to misrepresent its privacy policies while implementing a comprehensive privacy program. In addition, the two parties agreed to a regular independent privacy audits every other year for 2 decades.
Johnson & Johnson today honors the winners of the 2012 Dr. Paul Janssen Award for Biomedical Research in a ceremony and scientific symposium at the New York Academy of Sciences in New York, NY. Victor Ambros, Ph.D., of the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and Gary Ruvkun, Ph.D., of Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, received the award for their collaborative discovery of microRNAs (miRNAs) as central regulators of gene expression and development, and will share a $100,000 prize.
