When you’re a brilliant mathematician like the Baltimore Ravens’ John Urschel, a football playbook is only so challenging. So the 6-foot-3, 305-pound offensive lineman looks for mathematics in everyday life for mental stimulation, and he’s asking you to do the same. Get in the game by snapping photos of how and where you use math at school, at home, on the practice field — anywhere and everywhere – for a chance to win a $500 Amazon gift card and a video conference for your class with the professional athlete. Kicking off August 19, in coordination with World Photo Day (#WorldPhotoDay), and running through September 17, you can show John Urschel how you use math for the win in everyday life on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtags #MathFTW and #TIContest to be entered to win. And, get creative! The gifted mathematician is seeing a lot of math these days as he pursues his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Urschel, who holds a 4.0 Grade Point Average, is all the proof students need to see they can be good at academics while pursuing other passions – from athletics to the arts. There’s a dance that goes on between mothers and their newborns: the initiation of relationship and communication. However, current culturally driven health and child care practices are interrupting the dance and causing more harm than good. As a result, parents, especially first time parents, often require a great deal of education and support. Dr. Barbara Morrison (DrBarb) is a certified nurse midwife dedicated to advocating, educating and inspiring healthcare reform for newborns and their families. As the founder and CEO of DrBarbCNM, LLC (http://www.DrBarbCNM.com), DrBarb is among the leading advocates of Kangaroo Care, the method of holding a newborn or infant skin-to skin, chest-to-chest to strengthen the bond between parent and child and to encourage breastfeeding and mental, social and physical development. http://www.CreativeManifesting.com The biggest challenge conscious creators have regarding creating success, wealth, and happiness is the insidious and toxic belief that somehow they are 'deficient' or 'broken' or 'not worthy' or 'not smart enough' or 'lazy'...or any number of limiting notions that prevent their Divine Birthright to unlimited success. By retraining your mind to believe MORE in your unlimitied potential - that you are deserving and worthy of your dreams - you can (and will) manifest success; you will invite both the inspiration and the commitment to take inspired action and attract great joy, health, wealth, and beauty into your life.

The bold and thrilling quest to finally understand the brain—and along with it our mental afflictions, from depression to autism—by a rising star in neuroscience Sebastian Seung, a dynamic young professor at MIT, is at the forefront of a revolution in neuroscience. He believes that our identity lies not in our genes, but in the connections between our brain cells—our own particular wiring. Seung and a dedicated group of researchers are leading the effort to map these connections, neuron by neuron, synapse by synapse. It is a monumental effort—the scientific equivalent of climbing Mount Everest—but if they succeed, they will uncover the basis of personality, identity, intelligence, memory, and perhaps disorders such as autism and schizophrenia. Seung explains how this new map of a human “connectome” might even enable us to “upload” our brains into a computer, making us effectively immortal. Connectome is a mind-bending adventure story, told with great passion and authority. It presents a daring scientific and technological vision for at last understanding what makes us who we are, both as individuals and as a species. Find out more here, http://bit.ly/yEBoyq Non-Fiction

Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE: LLY) will commemorate its 140th anniversary today with activities at Lilly locations worldwide, including a ceremony to unveil a statue dedicated to founder Colonel Eli Lilly at global headquarters in Indianapolis. Over 14 decades, the organization has contributed more than 100 medicines and significant medical advances, such as the first commercially available insulin, manufacturing and global distribution of the Salk polio vaccine and mental health breakthroughs such as anti-depressant Prozac® (fluoxetine). Today Lilly continues to progress its most robust pipeline in history with dozens of potential new medicines in mid- to late-stage development for cancer, diabetes, autoimmune disease, pain and Alzheimer’s disease. “As Lilly celebrates 140 years, we’re keeping the vision of our founder alive – from our dedication in the lab to our impact in the community,” said John C. Lechleiter, Ph.D., Lilly chairman, president and chief executive officer, who began his career at Lilly as a chemist in 1979. “Colonel Eli Lilly started this company to put science to work fighting disease and encouraged his successors to ‘take what you find here and make it better and better.’ That vision pushes us daily to honor Colonel Lilly’s legacy and continue in our quest to discover new medicines to help make life better.” To view the multimedia release go to: http://www.multivu.com/players/English/7809951-eli-lilly-and-company-140th-anniversary/

More than 15 percent of reproductive-aged women have filled a prescription for an antidepressant medication during the years 2008–2013, according to a new analysis published today in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR). January is National Birth Defects Prevention Month and the CDC is working with the March of Dimes to raise awareness about the use of antidepressant medications by women of reproductive age, and what women should know and do for their own health and that of their babies. There is conflicting evidence about the potential link between some antidepressants and certain birth defects. Some commonly used antidepressants are sertraline (Zoloft), bupropion (Wellbutrin, Zyban), and citalopram (Celexa).
