In an intimate three minute television message, first broadcast on Channel 4 on Tuesday evening, Sir Richard Branson cited bravery as the defining characteristic of an entrepreneur. He invited start-ups and innovators from across the UK to pitch their ideas to him in Virgin Media Business’s “#VOOM: Pitch to Rich 2015”, in association with the world’s largest professional network, LinkedIn.

Johnson Controls, a global multi-industrial company, is constantly focusing on improving the future of car seating. The Swiss watch world is about to be joined by an exciting new addition with a venerable name. Czapek, a watch brand that achieved considerable success in the nineteenth century, has been revived and is launching with a distinctive timepiece and an innovative sharing strategy to attract watch lovers.
Czapek & Cie was re-established by three entrepreneurs with a passion for fine watches and outstanding mechanics. The original founder, François Czapek was a Czech-born, Polish watchmaker, who arrived in Geneva, Switzerland, in 1832. In 1839 he founded Patek, Czapek & Cie with fellow pole Antoni Patek. For six years they produced exceptional watches.
At the end of their partnership, in 1845, he founded Czapek & Cie and became Purveyor to the French Emperor Napoleon the Third. At its height, the company had boutiques in Geneva, Warsaw and Paris, Place Vendôme.
“Czapek deserves to be revived, he was one of the great watchmakers of the nineteenth century, who brilliantly combined precision mechanics with extremely refined aesthetics”, says Xavier de Roquemaurel, spokesman for the team. Czapek’s timepieces, which are still coveted at auctions, reveal a quest for beauty through a poetic display of time.

According to a Goldman Sachs Global Investment Research report published in 2015, 43 percent of children age 0-17 had millennial parents in 2014, and this figure is expected to exceed 50 percent in 2016. A new independent survey of U.S. households, supported by Connections Education, found that millennials are supportive of alternative approaches to education, with three-fourths of millennial parents (77 percent) saying a DIY approach to education, in which learners craft a path to graduation that best fits their needs, is a good idea.

These figures will have an immense impact on oil, especially that 90% of the Kingdom’s revenue is generated from oil exports. While 27% percent of the produced oil is spent on generating energy.

Sickle cell disease (SCD) is an inherited, lifelong chronic disorder affecting nearly 100,000 Americans and a growing global health problem that will touch nearly 30 percent more people globally in the next three decades. Though new approaches to managing SCD have led to improvements in diagnosis and supportive care, people living with the disease still have severe complications to overcome. Many are unable to access quality care and are limited by a lack of effective treatment options.
In an effort to identify unmet medical needs for people with SCD, the American Society of Hematology (ASH), along with other groups, issued the State of Sickle Cell Disease: 2016 Report, evaluating the disease in four priority areas — access to care, training and professional education, research and clinical trials, and global health. The report shows that significant improvements are needed across all areas and that, though patients are living longer, the system of care needs to change to ensure a better quality of life. To address these challenges, ASH launched the Sickle Cell Disease Coalition along with more than 20 other organizations who are issuing a call to action that will amplify the voice of the SCD community, promote SCD awareness, and transform SCD care both in the United States and around the globe.

Construction is complete at A/D/O, a new 23,000 square-foot creative space, which opens to the public in Greenpoint, Brooklyn following the holiday season. At the core of A/D/O is its Design Academy, which aims to inspire pioneering work and be a forum for interdisciplinary debate. A/D/O will provide unique opportunities for professional development while inviting the broader public to explore design through a range of installations, exhibitions and events.
The Design Academy at A/D/O will offer an ambitious seasonal program geared towards design professionals, which stimulates relevant dialogue and new work through talks and workshops, special exhibitions and commissions and designer residencies. Its first program, entitled “Utopia vs. Dystopia: Designing Our Imagined Futures,” investigates the role design plays in a world of rapid change. Partnerships with design firms MOS Architects, OLIN, Stephen Burks Man Made and Turner-prize winning collective Assemble, as well as talks from Yves Behar and Alice Rawsthorn among others, are important components of this inaugural season, which will kick off with a three-day festival January 27-29, 2017.

Today, Novo Nordisk announced a three-year extension of its Changing Diabetes® in Children programme. Since 2009, free insulin and access to diabetes care have been provided to more than 13,000 children in nine countries in Africa and South-East Asia. During the five years, 108 diabetes clinics have been established and 5,479 healthcare professionals have received diabetes care training.
