The Wakefield Research study surveyed 200 law enforcement officers across the U.S. who revealed they've experienced a sharp downturn of new applications to their agencies. More than half (54 percent) of the respondents said the number of job applications to their department has decreased in the last five years. Meanwhile, 83 percent of officers think that it will be even more difficult to recruit new candidates in the next five years.

Quadriplegic former IndyCar driver and current team owner Sam Schmidt completed the bottom half of the challenging, high-altitude Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb yesterday in the Arrow Electronics, Inc. (NYSE:ARW) Semi-Autonomous Motorcar (SAM car).
Schmidt, who was paralyzed from the neck down in a crash during an IndyCar practice lap in 2000, is able to steer, accelerate and brake the modified 2016 Corvette Z06 SAM car using only his head. Sensors mounted on an Arrow-designed high-tech headset that Schmidt wears connect to infrared cameras mounted on the dashboard and detect his head-tilt motions to steer. A sip-and-puff device that Smith breathes into enables him to accelerate and brake.

Today, VSP Vision Care, the largest not-for-profit vision benefits provider in the United States, and market research agency YouGov released new findings showing that half of people in the U.S. are neglecting their eyes despite 84 percent of people rating vision as their most important sense. The American Le Mans Series reports it reduced its petroleum usage by nearly 50 percent in its most recent race.
Series president Scott Atherton delivered the message today to journalists and government officials in Washington at the National Press Club. “Ten days ago at Road America, renewable fuel use by our race cars reduced petroleum consumption by 48 percent compared to traditional all-petroleum racing fuel,” Atherton said. “According to the Department of Energy, if such a result was translated to the U.S. vehicle fleet, the nation could decrease imported oil dependency by half, saving $175 billion every year inside our economy.”

More and Fitness magazines in partnership with New York Road Runners, welcomed nearly 10,000 runners for the biggest women’s-only half marathon in the country.
