BGC Partners, Inc. (NASDAQ: BGCP) (“BGC Partners” or “BGC”), a leading global brokerage company servicing the financial and real estate markets, announced today that BGC, together with its affiliate Cantor Fitzgerald, raised approximately $12 million for charities around the world, at the companies’ 11th annual Charity Day on Friday, September 11, 2015. Each year, BGC and Cantor Fitzgerald donate 100% of the global revenues generated on Charity Day to the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund and dozens of charities around the world.
“Since first established 11 years ago, Charity Day has symbolized the importance our company places on making a difference in the world and paying tribute in a positive way to the loved ones we lost on this anniversary of a day that is forever in our memory,” said Howard W. Lutnick, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BGC Partners. “We are honored to be able to support a multitude of worthy charities and causes around the world and I am deeply grateful for the generosity our clients, partners and employees have continued to demonstrate for our philanthropic efforts on Charity Day and throughout the year.”

Tune in as the Emmy® Award-winning television series This Old House kicks off its first-ever Los Angeles renovation on PBS. With the help of local tradespeople, the expert crew gives a 1933 Spanish Colonial Revival located in the neighborhood of Silver Lake a “Hollywood-style makeover.” In order to accommodate a growing family, homeowners Kurt Albrecht and Mary Blee know they need to expand their home. The This Old House experts are working with Los Angeles-based contractor Steve Pallrand and his design-build firm Home Front on a modest 750-sq.ft. addition, which includes a new second floor, larger kitchen, new family room, two additional baths and two more bedrooms. Throughout the renovation, the series will focus on preserving and replicating the quaint period details that make the property unique, such as the clay roof tiles, arched doorways, tray ceilings, plaster ornamentation, inlaid floors and art deco light fixtures.

According to Genworth’s (NYSE: GNW) 2012 Cost of Care Survey, the cost to receive care in the home remained unchanged from 2011 to 2012 and home care costs have also risen less dramatically over the past five years than for other types of long term care services.
“Overwhelmingly, Americans prefer to receive long term care in the home and the relatively muted increase in home care costs over the past few years can be viewed as a positive for consumers,” said Steve Zabel, senior vice president of Long Term Care at Genworth. “Consumer demand for home care services has led to a proliferation of home care services providers and more choice for consumers. This competition has kept home care costs relatively stable, especially when compared to the cost of care in a nursing home or assisted living facility.”

As Britain prepares for a summer of sport, Steve Backley, former javelin world record holder and Olympian turned business motivator and author, calls on British businesses to encourage competition, following two polls showing many embrace competition at work.
The first report, carried out by The National Business Awards in partnership with Orange, shows that 65% of workers agree winning is important to them, with over two thirds believing healthy competition brings out the best in people and almost 40% acknowledging they enjoy a competitive environment at work. However, many employees say competitiveness is not encouraged in their workplace enough.
Over 40% say being rewarded for their achievements at work encourages them to ‘up their game’, yet nearly 60% said they are not praised enough by bosses when they do well at work. Over half of the workers canvassed also said they would like to feel part of a winning business and would be proud if their place of work was recognised by winning an external award.
