VW Golf ist "World Car of the Year 2013 - und der Porsche Boxster und Cayman: ist „World Performance Car 2013" geworden.Die weltweit begehrten Auszeichnungen wurde im Rahmen der New Yorker Motor-Show von einer internationalen Fachjury bestehend aus 66 Automobil-Journalisten aus 23 Ländern vergeben. In der Begründung der Jury heißt es: „Der Golf hat genau die richtige Größe - ist geräumig, praktisch und komfortabel. Er hat ein frisches fortschrittliches Design,eine neue Motorenpalette und eine beeindruckende Liste an Serien- und Sonder-Ausstattungen und Sicherheitssystemen. Wenn es ein Auto für jedermann gibt, dann ist es der Golf".
Sogenannte Concept Cars sind auf allen Automessen der Hingucker. Sie sollen zeigen, was die Autobauer für die Mobilität der Zukunft entwickeln. Oft wird aus dem Blick in die Zukunft aber auch nichts. Die Studien wären für eine Serienproduktion dann doch zu teuer gewesen, oder zu praxisfern, oder es wäre einfach nicht mehr die Akzeptanz bei den Käufern vorhanden. Dann wandern die Konzepte nach ihrem glorreichen Messeauftritten still und leise ins Museum oder die Schrottpresse. VW hat mit einem ambitionierten Projekt bewiesen, dass es auch anders geht. Das 1-Liter-Auto erschien zu Beginn vielen Skeptikern noch als reine Utopie. Als VW in Doha den Prototyp des XL1 durch die Straßen fahren ließ, war aber klar, dass es sich nicht nur ein imageträchtiges Marketingprojekt handelt. Spätestens als in Genf die Kleinserie des XL1 ins Scheinwerferlicht rollte, mussten Zweifler erkennen, dass VW es ernst meint.
Modern semitrailers for the most part do a good job of keeping passenger vehicles from sliding underneath them, greatly increasing the chances of surviving a crash into the back of a large truck, recent tests by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) show. But in crashes involving only a small portion of the truck’s rear, most trailers fail to prevent potentially deadly underride.
Earlier research showed that the minimum strength and dimensions required for underride guards are inadequate, prompting the Institute to petition the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in 2011 for tougher standards. The Institute also asked the agency to consider applying the standards to other types of large trucks, such as dump trucks that aren’t required to have any underride guards.

The National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have partnered to help new-car dealers reduce their energy consumption through the Energy Star program.
As part of this effort, NADA and EPA are encouraging dealerships to complete a brief survey that will give the agency a benchmark to better compare the energy usage of dealerships across the country and allow certification of those dealerships that perform well. The survey (www.nada.org/energystar) asks dealers to share their yearly utility bills, square footage—inside and out—and different types of equipment used at the dealership.
