The American Transaction Processors Coalition (ATPC) formally launched today with a panel discussion in front of 400 industry employees, chamber of commerce executives, university leadership and elected officials from Congress, the Georgia General Assembly and local governments across metro Atlanta.
More than 40,000 employees work directly for 70-plus Georgia-based transaction processing companies within an area known as Transaction Alley. These companies generated more than $30 billion last year, far exceeding other well-known Georgia industries like life sciences at $17 billion or film at $3 billion. Transaction Alley revenues equal that of the entire U.S. movie industry, and is dominated by Atlanta, just as Los Angeles dominates films.

Hold your nose. This story stinks…literally! New York is used to its fair share of interesting smells, but for the first time ever, the city had the odorous honor of hosting the Annual Odor-Eaters National Rotten Sneaker Contest, a competition that tests just how offensive sneakers can get. Ready to be judged were seven finalists, ages five to fourteen, from across the nation. They gathered at Ripley's Believe It or Not! in Times Square today wearing the decrepit and redolent rubber-soles that won them regional recognition. Only one competitor's sneakers were declared the stinkiest, and they belonged to 12 year old Jordan Armstrong from White Sands Missile Range, Las Cruces, NM.

Hundreds of Lowe’s Heroes employee volunteers teamed up with local Habitat for Humanity affiliates Friday to build homes in 10 cities across America and kick off “Hammers for Habitat,” a nationwide volunteer drive to mobilize 100,000 new volunteers to raise a hammer for Habitat this year.
From Seattle to Atlanta, volunteers framed homes in Lowe’s store parking lots and left several standing through the weekend to raise awareness of the need for volunteers to help Habitat reach its goal of serving one million people annually by 2018. In New York, volunteers from eight Lowe’s stores partnered with Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County to raise the walls of a new home in the middle of Times Square.

Danica Patrick will take to the track with a new primary sponsor as the blue-and-white No. 10 Aspen Dental Chevrolet SS makes its debut at the Kobalt 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend. And she’ll do it sporting a blue firesuit selected by fans who voted in the Danica's New Suit Sweepstakes.
Patrick first teamed up with Aspen Dental, one of the largest and fastest-growing networks of dental care providers in the U.S. with more than 430 locations in communities across 27 states, last fall. Since that time, she has helped to shine a spotlight on an often overlooked healthcare issue – oral health – by championing the launch of Aspen Dental's Healthy Mouth Movement, a community-giving initiative designed to deliver free dental care to thousands of people in need in communities across the U.S., and oral health education to millions more.

More than 30 years after the cult
television series The Love Boat filmed a special Australia episode in
Sydney, the show's popular Captain Stubing has released a fun video
about his latest tour Down Under, revealing he still loves to be at the
helm. With his visit timed to coincide with the romance
around St Valentine's Day, actor Gavin MacLeod, who played Captain
Stubing on the popular 70's show, visited Australia and New Zealand in
February, to renew the wedding vows of more than 30 local couples
onboard the Australian-based Sun Princess. The new video
captures highlights of Gavin's visit to Sydney and Auckland, including
his role as 'celebrant' at the wedding vow renewal ceremony as well as
his cruise across the Tasman Sea onboard Sun Princess with Gavin having
a little trouble adjusting to his new role as a guest, rather than the
captain, onboard the modern Love Boat. Speaking after his
tour, Gavin said he had fond memories of The Love Boat's time down
under in 1981, and he was delighted to revisit Sydney this year to
renew local couples' vows and again in Auckland. Connect with Princess: http://www.facebook.com/PrincessCruises http://www.twitter.com/PrincessCruises http://www.google.com/+PrincessCruises http://www.pinterest.com/PrincessCruises http://www.instagram.com/PrincessCruises
