Aurora Flight Sciences announced today that the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has awarded the company the prime contract for Phase 2 of the Agency’s Vertical Takeoff and Landing Experimental Plane (VTOL X-Plane) program.
VTOL X-Plane seeks to develop a technology demonstrator that could:
• Achieve a top sustained flight speed of 300 kt-400 kt
• Raise aircraft hover efficiency from 60 percent to at least 75 percent
• Present a more favorable cruise lift-to-drag ratio of at least 10, up from 5-6
• Carry a useful load of at least 40 percent of the vehicle’s projected gross weight of 10,000-12,000 pounds
The Aurora team’s design for its unmanned aircraft, named LightningStrike, seeks to provide an approximately 50-percent increase in speed over existing VTOL aircraft designed for comparable mission applications.

Parking crashes usually don’t result in serious injuries, but repair costs can quickly mount, along with the hassle of going without the family vehicle while waiting for the body shop to finish work. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has launched a rear crash prevention ratings program to help consumers identify models with the technology that can prevent or mitigate low-speed backing crashes. Two systems earn the highest rating of superior, and four earn the second-highest rating of advanced.
Rear crash prevention encompasses several technologies. Parking sensors issue warning beeps and/or seat vibrations when the equipped vehicle gets too close to another vehicle or object directly behind it, or, in some cases, in front of it. Rear cross-traffic alert warns drivers of approaching vehicles that might cross their path as they back up. Rear automatic emergency braking systems detect objects behind a reversing vehicle and may automatically brake if the driver doesn’t heed alerts to stop.
IIHS engineers evaluated rear autobrake systems on six popular 2017 model vehicles — the BMW 5 series sedan, Cadillac XT5 SUV, Infiniti QX60 SUV, Jeep Cherokee SUV, Subaru Outback wagon and Toyota Prius hatchback.
Under the three-tier rating scheme, models with optional or standard rear crash prevention systems are rated superior, advanced or basic. Ratings are determined by whether the vehicles have available rear autobrake and, if so, how it performs in a series of car-to-car and car-to-pole tests with different approach angles. The availability of parking sensors and rear cross-traffic alert also is factored in.
The Outback and XT5 earn a superior rating when equipped with optional rear autobrake, parking sensors and rear cross-traffic alert. The Cherokee, 5 series, QX60 and Prius earn an advanced rating with this optional gear.

Die jetzt gründlich überarbeitete vierte Generation, die im November beim Händler steht, soll dies möglichst noch toppen. Der Einstiegspreis beträgt 75.400 Euro. Mit 5,14 Meter Länge, 2,99 Meter Radstand, 1,95 Meter Breite und 1,46 Meter Höhe ist der A8 in seinen Abmessungen gleich geblieben; beim A8 L kommen in Radstand und Länge je 13 Zentimeter dazu. Beibehalten wurde natürlich auch der Leichtbau. Die Karosserie besteht nahezu komplett aus Aluminium und wiegt – in der Audi Space Frame-Bauweise konzipiert – lediglich 231 Kilo und auch das Gesamtgewicht des A8 3.0 TFSI stellt mit 1.830 Kilo einen Bestwert unter den Wettbewerbern mit Allradantrieb dar. Darüber hinaus gibt es noch zahlreiche optionale Assistenzsysteme, die das Fahren im A8 noch souveräner machen. Die adaptive cruise control mit Stop&Go-Funktion ist mit einer Ausbaustufe des serienmäßigen Sicherheitssystems Audi pre sense basic gekoppelt, das Gleiche gilt für den Audi side assist. Neu im A8 sind der Audi active lane assist, der die Lenkungsrichtung gegebenenfalls leicht korrigiert, und der Parkassistent mit Umgebungsanzeige, der die Lenkarbeit beim Parken übernimmt. Das ebenfalls neue Head-up-Display projiziert wichtige Informationen im Sichtbereich des Fahrers auf die Windschutzscheibe und der Nachtsichtassistent kann neben Fußgängern jetzt auch größere Wildtiere erkennen.Da bleiben also kaum noch Wünsche offen – allerdings bewegt man sich dann in Preis-Regionen von weit über 100.000 Euro. Muss man ja nicht alles haben. Für die Ingolstädter ist ein derartiges Angebot aber wichtig, um die Ansprüche betuchter Käufer zum Beispiel im Nahen Osten oder in China erfüllen zu können.
Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) today conducted the first flight of the first flight-test airplane for the MRJ (Mitsubishi Regional Jet), their next-generation regional jet. The first flight was viewed around the world on the MRJ website, www.flythemrj.com.
The MRJ took off from Nagoya Airport and confirmed its basic characteristics and functionality in ascent, descent and turning in airspace off the Pacific coast during its 1.5-hour first flight.
“The MRJ successfully took to the sky today thanks to ongoing cooperation and support from all members involved,” said Hiromichi Morimoto, President, Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation. “ We will make our utmost efforts towards type certificate acquisition, committing all our resources to develop and produce the finest regional jet aircraft to enter commercial service in 2017.”
“Operational performance of the MRJ exceeded expectations. We had a significantly comfortable flight,” said Pilot Yasumura, who served as captain.

Today the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Ad Council and Project Yellow Light announced the winners of the fifth annual Project Yellow Light scholarship competition. The contest calls on students to develop and produce a short video educating their peers on the dangers of using mobile devices behind the wheel of a vehicle. For the first time, Clear Channel Outdoor Americas has joined longstanding partners Mazda Motorsports, the National Organizations for Youth Safety (NOYS) and U-Haul to launch the first Project Yellow Light out-of-home media design contest. The winners of both the video and out-of-home design contests will be unveiled this afternoon on a digital billboard in New York’s Times Square that was donated by Clear Channel Outdoor.
Brothers Sam and Wrenn Senser from Louisville, Nebr. scooped the two grand prizes of $5,000 for the video contest, with Sam winning the college category, and Wrenn winning the high school category. The winners of the out-of-home media design contest were college student Bethany Wheeler from Snellville, Ga., and high school student Emily McDonald from Anaheim, Calif., with both receiving $2,000 scholarships. The lion’s roar will soon return to Audubon Zoo thanks to Joy and Donald “Boysie” Bollinger.
Boysie Bollinger, a philanthropist and Louisiana shipbuilding magnate, and his wife have donated $5 million to Audubon Nature Institute that will fund design and construction of a sprawling habitat for African lions. Audubon officials say the project will spur a larger redesign of the Zoo’s popular African Savanna exhibit that opened in the 1980s.
The $5 million donation – the largest single gift Audubon Zoo has ever received from a private individual or family – was announced on Wednesday, September 14, 2016.

Well here's the scoop on this poop ...... My Windows crashed on my main PC and I had lost all of my studio programs a few months back ..... I was focused on creating more pop orientated songs such as what I've been doing for 2017 but all of my vocal songs are still missing vital audio pluggins to continue on with them ..... I've now upgraded from FL 7 to FL 10 and I've got my studio program back but I'll need to work with it more to create new vocal material .... In the meantime, I'm composing new Electronic music with my FL 10 and I have a couple of monster size Electronic tunes created from my FL 7 but I'm still shying away from making videos for them and uploading them to here ...... So what I have here is a project that I was working on with my 7 version but it's also lacking the pluggins for me to go the full route with it ...... What inspired me to do this was after watching Youtube videos of rock songs being spliced together, most likely by university students with an engineering degree and I figured that I could probably do a better job with my old school methods ..... perseverance and a good hammer and nail ..... What I'd like to add to this description was that 4 months back, I had made this comment to a fellow MUSICIAN ??? ...... Youtuber who had just put together a mashup that took him a whole 5 hours to create ...... "A world's record from what I've seen around here" ...... My comment to him pretty much describes what I have here .....

Plyometric training, primarily used for athletes not only improves strength, power and stamina, it burns a serious amount of calories too. In this circuit, each plyometric movement is followed by a strength movement to help improve both conditioning and muscle tone all in one workout. Plyometric exercises should be explosive and powerful. Rest should be limited.
