Michelin today marked the opening of its newest plant in North America, which will produce the innovative MICHELIN® X® TWEEL® Airless Radial Tire™ for commercial applications.
An idea first conceived by Michelin research engineers in the United States, the TWEEL is a revolutionary non-pneumatic tire that changed the configuration of a conventional tire, bringing together the tire and the wheel assembly into one solid unit. The TWEEL comprises a rigid hub connected to a shear beam by means of flexible, deformable polyurethane spokes, all functioning as a single unit.

Michelin announced today it will expand the market footprint for its airless skid steer tires with the launch of two new versions of the award-winning MICHELIN® X® TWEEL® SSL airless radial tire: a 12N16.5 X® TWEEL® SSL All Terrain for a wide range of surfaces and a12N16.5 X® TWEEL® SSL Hard Surface for pavement use.
The development of Michelin’s Tweel technology is significant, since skid steer loaders equipped with traditional pneumatic tires, experience at least two or more flat tires per month. Desperate to find a solution to reduce flat-tire downtime, many users resort to using foam-filled, solid tires or other alternatives that result in diminished traction, handling and ride comfort. The 12N16.5 X TWEEL SSL provides the advantages of no air pressure maintenance, easy mounting, damage resistance, increased operator comfort, reduced operator fatigue, improved productivity and longer wear life than pneumatic tires.

Verbraucher haben dennoch eine große Auswahl: Insgesamt haben ADAC und Stiftung Warentest 32 Modelle untersucht - elf Reifen erhalten ein „gut“ und sind damit besonders empfehlenswert. Gleich sieben gute Reifenmodelle gibt es in der kleinen Dimension mit der Größe 185/60 R15T (z.B. für Audi A 1, Citroën C3, Fiat Punto Renault Clio, VW Polo). The North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) today revealed new programs and major improvements that will make the entire show experience more convenient, and more productive for both media and auto manufacturers.
To assist journalists covering the show, the Michelin Media Center will move from the third level of Cobo Center to Michigan Hall (river level). And, to ease travel to Detroit for both media and manufacturer personnel, Delta Air Lines is offering a discount airfare program, along with travel assistance from Passageways Travel.
