The top 10 videos have been chosen in Bridgestone America’s Teens Drive Smart Video Contest. Now it’s time for the public to decide who the top three finalists will be.
Voting is underway now through July 23 at www.teensdrivesmart.com. The top three vote-getters will get all-expense paid trips to New York City. Bridgestone Americas will choose the first place winner, which will receive a $25,000 scholarship and his/her video will air on the MTV Jumbotron in Times Square in New York during the month of August. Second place will receive a $15,000 scholarship and third place will win $10,000 for college.

Until recently, SUVs and pickups were more likely than cars or minivans of the same weight to be involved in crashes that killed occupants of other cars or minivans. As part of Global Youth Traffic Safety Month™ , the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), Mazda Motorsports, the Ad Council and the National Organizations for Youth Safety (NOYS) announced the six high school and college winners of their second annual Project Yellow Light scholarship contest. “One Text or Call Could Wreck It All,” was the theme of this year’s contest. Entrants were asked to develop and produce a short video that would depict for their peers the dangers of risky mobile behavior on our Nation’s roadways. The high school grand prize was awarded to Brittany Devasure, a senior from North Carolina, for her video. For the first time, the contest was open to college students. Rachel Hall, who studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music, was recognized as the grand prize winner for her video.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) today warned drivers in the Las Vegas area to be on the lookout for criminals targeting trucks in a deliberate attempt to cause an accident for the purpose of collecting insurance money.
As many as 100 suspected staged accidents along the I-15 corridor through the metropolitan Las Vegas area have been reported to NICB in the past 12-18 months and as many as 25 of those accidents targeted big rig trucks. The NICB is working closely with its member companies, the Nevada Insurance Council, the Nevada Highway Patrol, and the Nevada Attorney General’s Office to track down the organizers behind these schemes.
