The National WWII Museum today opened its newest permanent exhibit: Richard C. Adkerson & Freeport-McMoRan Foundation Road to Tokyo: Pacific Theater Galleries. Retracing the grueling trail that led from Pearl Harbor to Tokyo Bay, Road to Tokyo explores the evolving strategy for fighting relentless Japanese forces in Asia and the Pacific, examining cultural differences, logistical challenges and the staggering range of extreme conditions that confronted American military forces in Asia and the Pacific.
Along with Road to Tokyo, the Museum also opened a new exhibit on the US Merchant Marine. LTJG Ralph E. Crump Merchant Marine Gallery is a stand-alone gallery that honors the mariners who risked their lives transporting weapons, men and matériel to distant warfronts. Features include a video, artifacts, a model of a Liberty ship and an engaging array of personal narratives. The gallery is situated in the Solomon Victory Theater complex, at the end of the American Spirit Bridge – a new glass-and-metal bridge that connects the Museum’s Louisiana Memorial Pavilion with the rest of the six-acre campus for the first time.

The largest Memorial Day observance in the United States happens on the beach in Honolulu, Hawaii with the Lantern Floating Hawaii 2015 ceremony, presented by Shinnyo-en, an international Buddhist community with Japanese roots, and the locally based Nā Lei Aloha Foundation. The ceremony takes place on Memorial Day, May 25, 2015. It is non-denominational and free to the public to attend. More than 50,000 participants will set afloat 6,000 candle-lit lanterns that bear remembrances and prayers to illuminate the shores of Honolulu’s Ala Moana Beach at sunset. A Cigna Foundation grant to Achilles International will help determine whether running holds the key to better mental and physical development for children with autism. At a ceremony today at the U.S. National Archives in Washington, D.C., Monuments Men Foundation Founder and Chairman Robert Edsel donated “Hitler Album No. 6” to the Archive, reuniting it with 39 other “Hitler Albums” recovered at the end of World War II. Chief Archivist of the United States, David Ferriero, accepted the album from the foundation and Monuments Man Harry Ettlinger. Ettlinger represents the historic group honored most recently in Sony Pictures’ THE MONUMENTS MEN, which is based on Mr. Edsel’s No.1 New York Times’ bestselling book of the same name.

The Smithsonian's National Museum of American History will open a unique hands-on learning space, the Patrick F. Taylor Foundation Object Project, July 1. Made possible by philanthropist Phyllis Taylor, the 4,000-square-foot space in the museum's new Innovation Wing will focus on “everyday things that changed everything.”
Anchored by an array of individual cases–some overhead, others with visitor-activated sound, light and motion effects–“Object Project” will invite visitors to interact with approximately 250 objects within the 9-by-40-foot sculpture that forms the learning space. The space is divided into four sections: Bicycles, Refrigerators, Ready-to-Wear Clothes and Household Hits, which includes a customized interactive version of “The Price Is Right” game show format licensed from FremantleMedia North America Inc.

ATLANTA — January 29, 2019 — The Krystal Foundation announces $101,112.78 in enrichment funding for 31 schools and school-affiliated organizations. These grant recipients were chosen from 229 applications received during the Foundation’s first two grant windows for the 2018-2019 academic year. The next grant window opens on February 1 and extends to March 1 when recipients will be selected for an additional $50,000 for impactful programming in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM) as well as music, sports and culinary arts.
