Black History Month is a time when all Americans honor the rich African American culture in our society. It was Carter G. Woodson, an African American historian, who began a weeklong celebration, called Negro History Week, in 1926 as a way to honor Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln. One of the best ways to celebrate is by reading books by and about African Americans. Virginia Hamilton’s works are among the many books that call upon readers to think about slavery, freedom, and heritage. Through her stories, Hamilton began the genre of liberation literature, which serves to instill cultural pride, as well as a sense of family and the importance of relationships. A business school alumnus has cycled over 16,000 km from Shanghai to London, to raise money for a children’s charity.
Matthieu Liard, a graduate of the CEMS Master’s in International Management programme and HEC Alumnus began the mammoth journey in March this year. Along with friend Oli Goulden, he cycled through 16 countries, four deserts and three mountain ranges.

Santa isn’t just sliding down the chimney this year! To bridge the gap between Easter and Christmas, 20 PEEPS® Santas hopped through New York City spreading cheer and sweetness. The journey of the Santas culminated with a choreographed dance to the tune of the “Bunny Hop” and the distribution of samples of candy-cane-inspired PEEPS® Candy Cane marshmallow treats.
The hopping Santas began at Rockefeller Plaza and hopped about the city, stopping at Times Square, and outside Radio City Music Hall, finally gathering for a special event that had spectators jumping with joy.

Child restraint manufacturers continue to roll out new booster seats that do a good job of improving the way an adult safety belt fits a typical booster-age child. This year, 19 of 31 new models evaluated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety earn the top rating of BEST BET, and one model is a GOOD BET.
The Institute began rating boosters five years ago because research indicated that most seats weren’t doing a good job of fitting safety belts correctly and consistently on children in a variety of vehicles. Boosters earn a rating of BEST BET, GOOD BET, Check Fit or Not Recommended, based on a protocol that involves measuring how three-point lap and shoulder belts fit a child-size test dummy seated in the booster on a stationary test fixture under four conditions that span the range of safety belt configurations in passenger vehicles. The evaluations focus on safety belt fit and don’t involve crash tests.

Kubota Corporation today announced the grand opening of its new $73 million manufacturing facility at Kubota Industrial Equipment (KIE) in Jefferson, Ga. The 522,000-square-foot plant on the 88-acre site recently began production of Kubota’s 30- to 50-horsepower compact tractor models. Motorhead started in 1975 when Lemmy Kilmister returned to London, determined to start his own band to avoid being fired again, he decided it would be called ‘Bastard,’ but management overuled and ‘Motorhead,’ a song Lemmy had written as a B-side for Hawkwind, was born. With drummer, Lucas Fox and Pink Fairies guitarist, Larry Wallis, and Lemmy on bass and vocals, Motorhead began gigging and recorded their first album, which their record company refused to release at the time, (it later emerged in 1980 as ‘On Parole’).
