Exact Sciences Corp. (NASDAQ: EXAS) announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Cologuard, the company’s noninvasive, stool DNA colorectal cancer screening test. Cologuard is the first noninvasive screening test for colorectal cancer that analyzes both stool DNA and blood biomarkers and has been proven to find 92 percent of cancers and 69 percent of the most advanced precancerous polyps in average risk patients. Cologuard, which is available through healthcare providers, offers people 50 and older at average risk for colorectal cancer an easy–to–use screening test they can do in the privacy of their own home.

Smokey Bear, the icon featured in the longest running public service campaign in U.S. history, turns 70 years old this Saturday, August 9, 2014. Global demand for food has never been higher, as populations skyrocket and developing areas of the world strive to feed their citizens. But in the United States, more than one–third of the food produced is never eaten and a new online survey of U.S. grocery shoppers’ attitudes conducted by Harris Poll on behalf of Sealed Air Corporation (NYSE: SEE) shows that food waste in the U.S. is near the top of the list of consumers’ environmental concerns and they are willing to change behaviors if better informed on the issue. The April 2014 study interviewed over 1,000 U.S. adults (aged 18+) who do at least 25% of their household’s grocery shopping (“American grocery shoppers”).

The Hertz Corporation (NYSE: HTZ) announces the company’s new protocol for rental car maintenance and cleanliness, Hertz Certified Clean & Safe, which is being rolled out to all Hertz airport and suburban locations in the U.S. For the first time, the company is sharing with customers each step taken, which includes a 35 point checklist, to prepare every car and verify the vehicle is certified clean and safe before it’s rented. Once the vehicle is certified, a card signed by the representative preparing it for rental is placed on the vehicle’s steering column to reassure the customer it has been certified clean and safe.

A majority of dads in the U.S., seven out of ten, recently reported that they could use tips on how to be a better parent, according to a national survey conducted by the Ad Council. In advance of Father’s Day, WWE Superstars are inspiring dads throughout the country to get more involved in their children’s lives. A majority of U.S. (74 percent) and Canadian (67 percent) finance and accounting executives surveyed recently said they expect their companies’ compliance burden to rise in the coming years, and 48 percent and 41 percent of U.S. and Canadian executives, respectively, also anticipate the cost of compliance will increase. These are just two of the findings from the fifth edition of Benchmarking the Accounting & Finance Function: 2014, an annual study from Robert Half and Financial Executives Research Foundation (FERF), the research affiliate of Financial Executives International (FEI).
