After nearly eight years of careful planning, guests from across Illinois gathered today in Lake Forest to celebrate the ceremonial opening of the new Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital, which will officially open on March 3, 2018.
The new state-of-the-art hospital, which broke ground in 2014, will provide patients convenient access to world-class physicians with seamless access to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Illinois’s premier academic medical center when needed. The new Lake Forest Hospital will offer cutting-edge treatments and innovative clinical trials within a world class health system.

The Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) announces the launch of the “Step Up for Blue” Campaign for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. The campaign honors the millions of men and their families touched by prostate cancer worldwide.
“Step Up for Blue” focuses on elevating critical issues to inspire, energize, and accelerate actions that lead to greater awareness, new therapies, and fewer deaths from prostate cancer. It will run through the duration of September.

The campaign is raising awareness of Dupuytren’s Contracture, a progressive, potentially disfiguring hand condition affecting a layer of tissue underneath the palms that can cause one or more fingers to move into a bent position so they cannot be straightened.
Dupuytren’s Contracture, sometimes referred to as “Viking Disease,” can make everyday tasks difficult, such as grabbing an object at home, or in Tim Herron’s case, a nine iron from his golf bag. A new survey commissioned by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) reveals more than four in five adults (82%) are surprised that blood cancers are the third leading cancer killer of Americans. Further, nearly four in five adults (78%) are surprised that acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) is the most common cancer in children and young adults under age 20.
