DEIMOS-2, Spain's first ultra-high resolution satellite launched into orbit on 19 June, has started capturing its first images just 12 hours after it was brought on line.
DEIMOS-2, which was launched from the launch site at Yasny (Russia), was developed by Elecnor Deimos in a record time of just three years. The company built an innovative Satellite Integration and Operations Centre in Puertollano (Spain) to assemble and subsequently control DEIMOS-2. As a result, this project completes Elecnor Deimos' presence in the entire value chain for space missions. Elecnor Deimos has the capability to manage entire space programs: design, integrate, validate, launch and operate Earth observation satellites; use them for commercial purposes and develop them for third parties.

Thirty five percent of New Yorkers do not feel prepared for an emergency, such as a natural disaster, fire, power outage or act of terrorism according to a 2013 survey conducted by the New York City Office of Emergency Management (OEM). Today, the Television Bureau of Advertising (TVB), the not-for-profit trade association of America’s commercial broadcast television industry, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and the Ad Council launched their 11th year of “Project Roadblock: Local TV Puts the Brakes on Drunk Driving.” Launched in December 2003, Project Roadblock is the local broadcast television industry’s extension of NHTSA and the Ad Council’s ‘Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving’ PSA campaign. Since then, the multi-media campaign has served as an opportunity for local television stations to combat drunk driving by donating on-air, online and mobile advertising time and space for the PSAs. To date, broadcast TV stations across the nation have donated more than $34 million in media to support this effort.

The National Inventors Hall of Fame (NIHF), in partnership with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), announced today the 2015 Hall of Fame Inductees, all of whom have changed the world through human, social and/or economic progress.
Among this year’s class of Inductees is Nobel Prize winner Shuji Nakamura, responsible for the blue light-emitting diode (LED) which enabled the white LED, and the blue laser diode; Jaap Haartsen, the inventor of Bluetooth® technology, now used in 2.7 billion devices and growing; George Alcorn, who furthered deep space exploration with his X-ray spectrometer; Kristina M. The last year saw many achievements for Chengdu’s meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) industry. According to data from the Chengdu Municipal Statistics Bureau, Chengdu hosted 530 major exhibitions, conferences and forums in 2014, of which 214 were exhibitions, 45 more than a year earlier or a year-over-year (YOY) growth rate of 26.6 percent, and 113 were international conferences and forums, 8 more than a year earlier, or a YOY growth rate of 7.6 percent. The events took up 3.25 million square meters of space in the aggregate, a YOY growth rate of 8.0 percent, of which 49 were international in nature, occupying 1.74 million square meters, a YOY growth rate of 16.0 percent. Direct revenue derived from the industry for 2014 totaled 6.95 billion yuan, up 14.9 percent year-on-year while overall revenue (direct plus indirect) revenue reached 58.4 billion yuan, up 14.5 percent year-on-year.
